Which horses should you follow this National Hunt Season? Who might the value runners be in 2011/2012? Today our racing analyst and writer Stephen, shares with us his top 10 horses to keep an eye for the National Hunt Season 2011/2012.

With the Autumn upon us it is time to concentrate attention on the National Hunt Season and I have compiled a list of ten horses to follow over the coming months. They are a variety of types, some promising novices in with some experienced handicappers, but hopefully will provide plenty of fun and profit through the Winter ahead.
Progress updated - 10th January 2012
1- CUE CARD
Set for a profitable season novice chasing after competing at the top graded level as a novice. Has a terrific turn of speed when settling and the tempo of the larger obstacles are in his favour.
Progress....after some misfortune early in the season he got his career going forwards with an all the way win of a classy novice chase at Newbury and now heads to Cheltenham in excellent heart.
2- FINIANS RAINBOW
Fluent jumper and top class novice who ended a fine season winning at Aintree in April. Destined for the Gold Cup if things fall right and held in the highest regard by the top class Henderson yard.
Progress.....Made a winning seasonal debut despite all but falling and remains a top class prospect in the months ahead.
3- MENORAH
Top class novice is set to go chasing this term and few will have more pace when the ground rides on the fast side. Sure to run up a sequence before heading to the Festival in March where the Sun Alliance is on the agenda.
Progress....transition to chasing hasn't been a smooth one and didn't convince all when winning at long odds on at Taunton last time out.
4- SOMERSBY
Has always shaped as though needs 3m and decent ground and can be a force this season when his stamina gets properly tested. Maybe the type for top grade handicaps rather than graded company, with very fluent jumping a massive asset .
Progress.....has been pitched in at the deep end and run with credit at the top level all season so far despite only one win at Ascot.
5- TENOR NIVERNAIS
Caught the eye at the Cheltenham festival as a desperately unfortunate loser in a messy contest. Sure to aimed at the better novices and lightly raced sort is open to any amount of progression.
Progress....won a handicap by a very wide margin in December and then found the run coming too soon a few days later. May now be in the handicappers grip.
6- GO ALL THE WAY
The Cheltenham bumper is always a rich source of winners the following season, and the Nigel Twiston Davies 4-y-o is the one to latch onto after shaping superbly in March. Sure to need at least 2m4f over hurdles he is a useful prospect.
Progress...yet to reappear this season.
7- GRANDS CRUS
A second in the top class stayers hurdle culminated an excellent season for David Pipe's stable star. His attentions are set to be switched to fences and this smooth traveller will be a force at graded level if finding fluencey at the larger obstacles.
Progress....has emerged as a leading candidate for top prizes at the Cheltenham festival after a faultless start to his chasing career.
8- RESTLESS HARRY
From the small Robin Dickin yard he is often underated but achieved plenty despite having to perform in with the top notchers all season on ground faster than ideal. A scopey chasing type he can prove a different proposition chasing this season when getting some cut underfoot.
Progress...yard been quiet and hasn't lived upto last seasons promise yet....appearing a hard ride and not responding to blinds last time out.
9- THIRD INTENTION
Held when upped in class last season, this freegoing type is just the sort to shine when thrown into speed test handicaps this winter. Has a terrific cruising speed that will be suited to fast run races where he can settle in rear and come through the field.
Progress.....not been seen this season and maybe awaiting faster ground.
10- MOSSLEY
Another top class chasing prospect for the Henderson yard. Flopped at Aintree when over the top, his Cheltenham form in the 3m Albert Bartlett was an excellent effort and sure to be aimed at the festival again this time round. Has enormous scope and reportedly schooled superbly at home already.
Progress.....A win and a second behind Join Together so far this season and sure to carry on improving at the top level.
