FA Cup: West Ham vs. Arsenal

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Another London derby but this time it is in the FA Cup. Arsenal will have to travel across town to the West of London to meet West Ham at Upton Park on Sunday late afternoon kickoff. The London derby are already a grueling affair for both teams but the FA Cup gives it an more fair play ground for both teams  as the only stake is on hand is who will be going through to the fourth round. Forget the Premiership table, both teams knows there is more on stake for this one.

West Ham are not having the season they wanted. They are having financial problems and stuck at the bottom half of the table, although the FA Cup will give them a bit of a breather from the Premiership. Manager Zola will most likely put his best eleven against Arsenal in an all or nothing game at Upton Park.

Arsenal are just about the opposite side of the fortune cookie when compared to West Ham. They probably did not want the FA Cup matches to step in as they were in good form in the premiership. They beat Portsmouth 4-1 in the midweek and disposed Aston Villa 3-0 at home. Things are just wonderful with the Gunners and they could go top of the table if they win their game in hand. Transferring their good form to the FA Cup won’t be a problem and Manager Wenger knows that their team are competing in all fronts. Cesc Fabergas will continue to nurse his injury.

If it was a Premiership match then Arsenal would be favorites but since it is a FA Cup then Arsenal are weak favorites. West Ham are notorious to be a hard, gritty and solid team when it comes to knock out matches. They are another team simply because they know there is not required to be consistent in any level but a win is the order of the day. Both teams will go at it and a reply could be on the menu.

FA Cup: Reading vs. Liverpool

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

The FA Cup magic is back and Reading will be hosting the mighty Reds from Liverpool on Saturday late afternoon kickoff. Reading FC will certainly see this as a glorious tie with a bit of money in the coffin but by all means, no shame if they lose to the Premiership team. Liverpool are favorites to beat Reading in the FA Cup 3rd round.

Reading will be thinking to themselves whether this is a good time to meet Liverpool in the FA Cup. They know their opponent are struggling in their recent form earlier December but the Christmas period saw the Reds back into their normal stride of winning. This is certainly giving some headaches for Reading in the upcoming FA cup fixture. They are currently 20th in the Championship and lost 4-1 away last weekend to Plymouth. More misery are heading toward Reading.

The Christmas saw Liverpool take two wins out of two games. A deep injury winner from Fernando Torres against Aston Villa saw Liverpool climb back into the Champions league contentions and back to winning ways. Rafa Benitez will want to make some impression in this competition as this could gave some silverware that Liverpool are longing for since the Premiership title and Champions League title are derailed. Liverpool will travel to Reading without Albert Riera and Glen Johnson, who could be out for months with a knee injury.

Fernando Torres is the man to watch at Reading. Last time these two teams met was in the Carling Cup and the Torres scored his first hat trick in English football. That night was surely memorable for some Liverpool fans and surely a repeat of this could certainly once again become reality. Although, never doubt the FA Cup spirit, Reading will have something up their sleeves.

FA Cup: Fulham vs. Swindon

The true magic of FA Cup will certainly be witness at Craven Cottage this Saturday afternoon tie between Fulham FC and Swindon Town. There are two league differences between these two teams and anything can happen on the day. Fulham are in good form of the late and Swindon will find it difficult to play their game at Carven Cottage.

Happy days in Fulham because Fulham have managed to keep Roy Hodgson for another 12 month rolling contract at Craven Cottage. Hodgson is Fulham’s most successful manager in recent history, helping them out of the relegation battle, highest position in the Premier League and also back in Europe in the last 32 of the Europa League. Fulham are not doing bad, mid tables with 27 points on 9th place. They did lose to Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the midweek but Fulham are strong at home, disposing Man U 3-0 and also Arsenal. Defender Pantsil might miss the rest of the season with a twisted knee.

Swindon are currently 6th in the League One and they are in contentions for promotion for Championship League next season. They beat Yeovil 3-1 and drew 2-2 away to Charlton in the Christmas period. All the signs look good for the upcoming game against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Swindon young striker, Charlie Austin, scored his seventh goal of the season, in his seventh game, against Yeovil and he could come up once again against Fulham. Swindon are looking to create headline in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

It all depends on Hodgson selection of his squad and starting eleven on the day. His priority is on the Premiership and that has exposed their unwillingness to field their strongest player in Cup tournament. That was seen in the Europa League and in the Carling Cup, but they did manage to get to the last 32 in their European campaign. A strong Fulham team would be favorites and I doubt Hodgson wants to take this to a reply.

Premier League: Portsmouth vs. Arsenal

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Arsenal+v+Portsmouth+-+Premier+League

Everybody is desperate for the three points in their last Premiership game of 2009. Portsmouth are at the foot of the table while Arsenal are competing at the high end of thing in the Premiership. Portsmouth are in dire strait if they do not get any points on Tuesday night at Fratton Park. Arsenal will have to dog it out to get anything out from the South Coast.

With Avram Grant in charge, things are slowly getting better, at least defensively in the Pompey ranks.  They beat Liverpool in front of their home crowd last time out in Fratton Park but lost to fellow struggler, West Ham, last weekend at Upton Park. The defeat to West Ham leaves them four points away from them at the bottom of the league and if they remain there towards the New Year, then Portsmouth are in danger of playing Championship football next season. Grant will encourage his team to find their grit to win at home.

Arsenal are clawing their way back to the title championship race and all thanks to one man, Cesc Fabergas. He has been dogged with a hamstring injury for the past weeks but made a brief appearance in their home 3-0 win against Aston Villa last Sunday. The Spaniard needed only 29 points to put away Aston Villa at the Emirates after been subbed in at half time. If there was one person that can lead Arsenal to glory then Fabergas should be on everyone’s lips. Manager Arsene Wenger has learnt that his captain will not be available for 2-3 weeks after the hamstring strain flared up again so he will not be fit to travel to the South Coast on Wednesday evening.

Two teams looking for points and Portsmouth are the desperate ones. Pompey are a team that does well at home and they know if they want to survive the premiership then they must win all of their home games. Arsenal are on the verge to close the gap between Chelsea and Manchester United. A win here will put them in a good position in the New Year.

Premier League: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

image-2-for-liverpool-vs-aston-villa-gallery-863943469

This is one of the biggest ties this midweek when Liverpool FC travels to Birmingham to face Aston Villa at Villa Park on a cold Tuesday evening. This one is for the top half of the Premiership and also the status of challenging for the Champions League spot for next season. Liverpool are looking to regain their status as the Big 4 while Villa are preventing them.

The 3-0 defeat to Arsenal last Sunday was a bit tough for Aston Villa to take. They could not match with Arsenal on sheer technical skills or the fast pace football for a place in the top 4. Manager Martin O’Neill will have to put aside the defeat and concentrate on another contender for the Champions League spot. Having to play 2 strong sides in 2 days, Villa might be a bit rattled but surely a better performance on Tuesday night is expected from the Villains. Former Liverpool players, Emile Heske, Brad Friedal and Stephan Warnock are set to face this former club while Ashley will serve one match suspension starting against Liverpool.

Liverpool are still trying to turn things around and they managed to do it against Wolves last Saturday when they won 2-0. Although, Wolves were on par with Liverpool all the way up until the sending off of Wolves S. Ward in the 2nd half. Liverpool struggled to create open chances and they look far off from their awesome form from last season. Manager Rafa Benitez will have to spur on his men to get him another 3 points. Javier Mascherano and Albert Riera are still injured

Liverpool are not full back to their top form while Aston Villa are riding on the positive tides. Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are still not at their top form yet but it is slowly coming around. The Reds know how important this game is if they want to be back on the top of things, while the Villains knows how to stop them as they beat Liverpool 3-1 earlier this season

Premier League: Arsenal vs. Aston Villa

Friday, December 25th, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

arsenal2_516x350_15548a

One of the big matches this festive weekend as third place, Arsenal, will host fourth place, Aston Villa, at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Arsenal are keen on getting back on the championship trial while Aston Villa are trying to break into the Big 4 domination. High stakes, high rollers, everybody are looking forward to see how this one turns out.

Arsenal have been a bit inconsistent of the late and that could be due to their injured Captain, Cesc Fabregas, and other first team squad. Manager Arsene Wenger has had the headache not being able to field his strongest starting XI for weeks and has affected his progression to win the Premiership. He will be once again being without Fabergas, Bendtner, Traore, Clichy, Djourou, Gibbs, Rosicky and van Persie.

Aston Villa are flying at the moment and it looks like Arsenal could be another victim in the festive period. They will travel to Arsenal on Sunday and take on Liverpool at home on Tuesday, so that is two big games for Martin O’Neill’s men in a short period of time. This could also spell whether they are equipped to challenge for the top spots this season in the Premiership. O’Neill will be without Bouma, Davies and Emilie Heskey.

Aston Villa had never won against Manchester United at Old Trafford ever in the Premier League, but they did it a fortnight ago. Villa could be on the verge of claiming another famous victory away from home against the Big 4. They have beaten Man U, Liverpool and now face a depleted Arsenal team, expect a surprise and Villa to shake things in the Premier League.

Premier League: Hull City vs. Manchester United

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Hull+City+v+Manchester+United+Premier+League+h38x69uRrrsl

Manchester United are still hanging on at the top of the Premier League as the gap to Chelsea have widen to six points. The reigning champion needs to get their act together if they want to mount a serious challenge to retain the Premiership title. They will be traveling to Hull who are struggling at the bottom half of the table.

Hull City faces charges over the failing to control their players in last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The mass confrontation started on the pitch when Arsenal Samir Nasri appeared to stepped on Hull’s Richard Garcia’s foot and further confrontation continued when both teams left the field for first half. Manager Phil Brown has a bigger problem in hand as they are linger on the relegation zone on 17th place. If Hull does not find themselves gaining points over the Christmas period then the 2010 will be a tough year ahead. Brown will not be able to pick either Ashbee or Bullard to face Man U.

Two recent defeats, 1-0 to Aston Villa at Old Trafford and a 3-0 crushing defeat at Craven Cottage to Fulham, might have dent the hope of winning their 19th Premiership. While Man United are losing ground, Chelsea have also done the same, so not all is lost. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will face yet another headache over his availability of defense players on the day. Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are still rule out doubtful to travel to Hull while another defeat could derail their Christmas spirit. Man U will without Hargreaves, Van der Sar, Macheda, Nani, Neville and O’Shea.

Christmas is the usually the time when Manchester United accelerate and does a solid job in maintain some kind of consistency from now until May. This season things have rapid been some kind of roller coaster ride and only they will know where it will be heading. Manchester United are favorites to beat the Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

Premier League: Liverpool vs. Wolverhampton

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

steven-gerrard

Growing frustrations are mounting up in the Liverpool camp while Manager Rafa Benitez is under heavy pressure to win or find himself out with a job just like former Manchester City’s manager, Mark Hughes. It hasn’t been the best of times for the Reds, winning only three of their last 14 matches. A defeat against the Wolves on Boxing Day could spell the end of Benitez’s reign in Liverpool FC.

Fernando Torres expressed his opinion that Liverpool simply needs more money if they were to compete with the best. Liverpool prolific striker noted that Liverpool are going through a bad patch and firing countryman Rafa Benitez, is not the solution to the crisis. Torres will partner up with Steven Gerrard once again in the Liverpool lineup and they will be hoping for all three points after a disappointing showing last weekend against Portsmouth.  Javier Mascherano is injured and will be serving a four match ban.

Wolverhampton are slowly gathering pace in the Premier League and they sit firmly 12th on the table. They won their last 3 out of four games and that was enough to put Manager Mick McCarthy in a festive mood as he travels with his team to Anfield. Their latest away game came under strong criticism over the controversial starting lineup in the 309 defeat to Manchester United. That day, McCarthy chose to rest 10 of his starting first team players and could he be repeating this on Boxing Day? Wolves are still without Edwards, Keogh, Kightly and Murray.

The Anfield crowd are expecting a win against Wolves on Boxing Day but the rest of the world could be sitting tightly and watch Liverpool crumble altogether on Christmas. Nothing more than a win will put Benitez back on track as he hunts down the good form they had last year. If further misery should come upon Liverpool then it might not come at Anfield, maybe somewhere else. Liverpool are weak favorites.

Premier League: Birmingham vs. Chelsea

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Fabrice_Muamba_Michael_Ballack_Birmingham_v_C_624219

Birmingham will be hosting the first game on Boxing Day in the Premiership as they face the league leaders, Chelsea. Things are really on the up for both clubs, both owned by foreign owners, as they are competing in the top half of the Premiership. Birmingham will be hoping to continue their good form but they will be without Murphy, Tainio and O’Connor.

Birmingham had all the momentum before their recent game against Everton which they drew 1-1 at Goodison Park. Before the Everton game, Birmingham was on a six straight consecutive win before halted against the Toffees. Their impressive run of form could be topped up with a win against Chelsea on Boxing Day and what more would Alex McLeish want from his men to end their 2009 campaign.

Chelsea are hanging on to their impressive form in the start of the season. They have lost a bit of their good run in the recent week, losing to Manchester City 2-1 away, drawing 1-1 against Everton, beating Portsmouth 2-1 and recently drawing against 1-1 West Ham in the London derby. Chelsea needs a bit of encouragement when it comes to their away games, they just seem to be a bit edgy when traveling. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will have to tighten his defense and make them one of the tightest defenses in the league once again. Chelsea will be without injured Nicolas Anelka, Michael Essien, Boswinga and Deco

Chelsea might be living on borrowed times as their form is getting cold just like the weather in Europe. One thing is for sure, Chelsea can hang on to Lampard or Drogba to score. Christmas is a period where surprises are everything and that goes with the Premiership. Birmingham is on a good run and they could surprise on the earlier afternoon kick off on Boxing Day. Chelsea could be staring on another draw.
