FA Cup: Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa

crystal palace aston villa

On the pitch, the South London team, Crystal Palace, has had a great season and the fairy tale lives on in the FA Cup for them. Aston Villa have also been outstanding in the knockout tournament by reaching the Carling Cup Final, they will surely hope to emulate that performance in the FA Cup to setup a date with Wembley once again.

Crystal Palace are going through some tough time off the pitch as the club is currently in administration. The club was also deducted 10 points in the Championship which hurt their potential challenge for the playoff for the Premiership this season. The FA Cup is the only tournament left for them to make some fast buck and get maybe a trip to Wembley. Crystal Palace are a different team when it comes to the FA Cup. They managed to beat Wolves under the Neil Warnock’s helm and they could one further by beating Aston Villa on Sunday. Their midweek game against Swansea in the Championship ended in a 1-0 defeat. Jonny Ertl and Paddy McCarthy are doubtful to join the squad.

Aston Villa are doing things quietly in the knockout tournaments. They ease their way into the Carling Cup Final with a 7-4 win against Blackburn while beating Brighton 3-2 to set up for a trip to South London for the 5th round FA Cup tie. If all goes to plan then Manager Martin O’Neill will be looking forward to progress to the next round but he knows that it will be a tricky tie at Selhurst park. Villa managed to get a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the midweek and O’Neill could continue to be without Emile Heskey and Stephan Warnock for the trip to London.

Aston Villa are favourites to go into the next round but Crystal Palace will prove to be a formidable opponent as the FA Cup magic could be back once again seeing another Premiership team getting knocked out. At the current circumstances, this could be called a David vs. Goliath match. Crystal Palace will do anything to stay in the competition and it will certainly be a dogfight at Selhurst Park. Check out Betsson as they are offering draw at odds 2.90.

FA Cup: Chelsea vs. Cardiff City

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Chelsea vs CardiffA bit of a break from the Premier League but Chelsea fixture continues with the FA Cup 5th round tie against Cardiff City at the Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The top Premiership side will take on Championship league side in a match to see who will progress to the next stage of the FA Cup. On paper, Chelsea are certainly among the favourites to knock Cardiff City out of the Cup.

In the words of Chelsea Manager Carlo Ancelotti, “The FA Cup and John Terry’s marriage are different; FA Cup is professional, the other thing is private”. Private or not, the decision to rest John Terry in the weekend against Cardiff City could be a sign that Chelsea are not as stable as they used to be. This was evidently seen against Everton in the midweek. Chelsea showed signs of weakness as the closing stages and let two goals through Petr Cech, saving a penalty, in a 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park. A repeat of this score will be embarrassing in front of their fans and Chelsea will find a way past the Championship team. Ashley Cole is rule doubtful after getting injured against Everton.

Cardiff are in a mess of their own as they are struggling to pay off the debt they owe to the British government. They got the extension to pay off the £2.7 million owe in 28 days and a win in the FA Cup could well be their lifeline in surviving as a club on its own. On the field, Cardiff  are doing well, they are in the playoff zone where seemingly a chance to get into the Premier League is not far off. They are in the fifth round of the FA Cup so things are working perfectly as they cruised to a 2-0 win in the midweek against Peterborough in the Championship. Manager Dave Jones will be hoping his striker Michael Chopra will be hungry in front the Chelsea goal.

Chelsea are favorites even if they are without Terry, Cole and some of the key players. Carlo Ancelotti will not be complacence so expect a strong team on Saturday to face Cardiff City. The Welsh side will be hoping that some of the FA Magic will be rubbed on them. They know Chelsea are a good home team but lately their away form has dipped. If Cardiff can intimate them then it will be a truly hard knocking FA Cup game. Betsson are offering odds 1.17 for a home win for Chelsea.

FA Cup: Stoke City vs. Arsenal

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Arsenal-VS-Stoke-City

It’s FA Cup time again and this weekend we will find Arsenal traveling on Sunday to the Britannia Stadium to do battle with Stoke City in a cup tie in the 4th round. Winner, of course, will advance to the next round and get one step closer to some silverware. Both Stoke City and Arsenal knows that the FA Cup will be their chance to pick some medals up.

Stoke City left it late against Liverpool last weekend in a 1-1 draw at the Britannia stadium. The Potters struggled to make any significant open chances and that might be due to the fact that both Rory Delap and A. Faye went off injured.  Their aerial attack was not effective but still manage to pull one back in the end. Manager Tony Pulis might want to shuffle up a few things in order to keep his defense formation tighter and solid. Robert Fuller and Liam Lawrence might just get the nod to start against Arsenal.

The North London team will travel once again up north but this time to face Stoke City in the FA Cup. The gunners are slowly reaching their peak form with their captain, Cesc Fabregas, returning in a momentous time to lift them back into Premiership title contentions and FA Cup silverware. Even though injuries and international duties have hit the Arsenal squad hard, they seem to be able to cope with the heavy schedule and producing good results, playing bolton twice and beat them in two occasions 2-0 and 4-2 home and away. The only player that needs to find himself is Eduardo as he is still struggling for pace and goal upfront. Arsenal will be without Bendter, Djourou, Eboue, Song, Gibbs, Nasri, Ramsey, Van Persie while Denilson, Walcott and Wilshere are doubtful.

Stoke City are fiercely competitor at home and not many premiership teams beat them at the Britannia Stadium. Liverpool came close and that must be a warning for Pulis and his men that they need to get their act together or otherwise Arsenal slick passing play will easily penetrate their defense. Manager Arsene Wenger will be plotting his win against Stoke City with minimalistic casualty and work load. Arsenal are favorites to go through to the next round.

FA Cup: West Ham vs. Arsenal

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

westham1

Another London derby but this time it is in the FA Cup. Arsenal will have to travel across town to the West of London to meet West Ham at Upton Park on Sunday late afternoon kickoff. The London derby are already a grueling affair for both teams but the FA Cup gives it an more fair play ground for both teams  as the only stake is on hand is who will be going through to the fourth round. Forget the Premiership table, both teams knows there is more on stake for this one.

West Ham are not having the season they wanted. They are having financial problems and stuck at the bottom half of the table, although the FA Cup will give them a bit of a breather from the Premiership. Manager Zola will most likely put his best eleven against Arsenal in an all or nothing game at Upton Park.

Arsenal are just about the opposite side of the fortune cookie when compared to West Ham. They probably did not want the FA Cup matches to step in as they were in good form in the premiership. They beat Portsmouth 4-1 in the midweek and disposed Aston Villa 3-0 at home. Things are just wonderful with the Gunners and they could go top of the table if they win their game in hand. Transferring their good form to the FA Cup won’t be a problem and Manager Wenger knows that their team are competing in all fronts. Cesc Fabergas will continue to nurse his injury.

If it was a Premiership match then Arsenal would be favorites but since it is a FA Cup then Arsenal are weak favorites. West Ham are notorious to be a hard, gritty and solid team when it comes to knock out matches. They are another team simply because they know there is not required to be consistent in any level but a win is the order of the day. Both teams will go at it and a reply could be on the menu.

FA Cup: Reading vs. Liverpool

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

fernando-torres22

The FA Cup magic is back and Reading will be hosting the mighty Reds from Liverpool on Saturday late afternoon kickoff. Reading FC will certainly see this as a glorious tie with a bit of money in the coffin but by all means, no shame if they lose to the Premiership team. Liverpool are favorites to beat Reading in the FA Cup 3rd round.

Reading will be thinking to themselves whether this is a good time to meet Liverpool in the FA Cup. They know their opponent are struggling in their recent form earlier December but the Christmas period saw the Reds back into their normal stride of winning. This is certainly giving some headaches for Reading in the upcoming FA cup fixture. They are currently 20th in the Championship and lost 4-1 away last weekend to Plymouth. More misery are heading toward Reading.

The Christmas saw Liverpool take two wins out of two games. A deep injury winner from Fernando Torres against Aston Villa saw Liverpool climb back into the Champions league contentions and back to winning ways. Rafa Benitez will want to make some impression in this competition as this could gave some silverware that Liverpool are longing for since the Premiership title and Champions League title are derailed. Liverpool will travel to Reading without Albert Riera and Glen Johnson, who could be out for months with a knee injury.

Fernando Torres is the man to watch at Reading. Last time these two teams met was in the Carling Cup and the Torres scored his first hat trick in English football. That night was surely memorable for some Liverpool fans and surely a repeat of this could certainly once again become reality. Although, never doubt the FA Cup spirit, Reading will have something up their sleeves.

FA Cup: Fulham vs. Swindon

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Bobby_Zamora_celebrates_his_goal_with_fellow_scorer_Clint_Dempsey_PicGetty_198111822

The true magic of FA Cup will certainly be witness at Craven Cottage this Saturday afternoon tie between Fulham FC and Swindon Town. There are two league differences between these two teams and anything can happen on the day. Fulham are in good form of the late and Swindon will find it difficult to play their game at Carven Cottage.

Happy days in Fulham because Fulham have managed to keep Roy Hodgson for another 12 month rolling contract at Craven Cottage. Hodgson is Fulham’s most successful manager in recent history, helping them out of the relegation battle, highest position in the Premier League and also back in Europe in the last 32 of the Europa League. Fulham are not doing bad, mid tables with 27 points on 9th place. They did lose to Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in the midweek but Fulham are strong at home, disposing Man U 3-0 and also Arsenal. Defender Pantsil might miss the rest of the season with a twisted knee.

Swindon are currently 6th in the League One and they are in contentions for promotion for Championship League next season. They beat Yeovil 3-1 and drew 2-2 away to Charlton in the Christmas period. All the signs look good for the upcoming game against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Swindon young striker, Charlie Austin, scored his seventh goal of the season, in his seventh game, against Yeovil and he could come up once again against Fulham. Swindon are looking to create headline in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

It all depends on Hodgson selection of his squad and starting eleven on the day. His priority is on the Premiership and that has exposed their unwillingness to field their strongest player in Cup tournament. That was seen in the Europa League and in the Carling Cup, but they did manage to get to the last 32 in their European campaign. A strong Fulham team would be favorites and I doubt Hodgson wants to take this to a reply.
