The Euro 2012 quater-finals have begun with Portugal eventually claiming the goal against the Czech Republic advance them to the semi-finals. Today on the blog, Andrew charts the in-play odds as the opening game of the Euro 2012 knock-out stage developed.

The first quarter final of Euro 2012 is in the books as Portugal did enough to see off the Czech Republic. Let's take a look at the in-play betting odds from Betfair as they match progressed.

1st Half : Portugal 0 - Czech Republic 0

From the outset the match looked destined to be a 1 or 2 goal decision. The chart below shows us the implied probability of the odds for each outcome as the first 45 minutes evolved. (By implied probability we mean the chance represented by the odds on offer. i.e Odds of 2.00 imply a 50% chance of that outcome occurring.)

As we can see the odds for a draw shortened steadily from their pre-match price of 3.80 (26.3%) to 2.80 (35.7%) by halftime. Portugal's price kicked off at 1.71 to win within the regulation 90 minutes (58.5%). By the 40th minute they were at even money. For the Czech Republic who started at odds of 6.40 (15.6%), their price shortened to as much as 5.50 (18.2%) after the opening 30 minutes before returning to 6.40 at halftime.

2nd Half : Portugal 1 - Czech Republic 0

Portugal's halftime price of 2.04 remained fairly steady for the opening 10 minutes of the 2nd half. As the match entered the last half hour, Portugal's odds drifted out until reaching a peak of 3.20 (31.2%) entering the 79th minute, with the Czech Republic trading at odds of 12.50 (8.0%) and the draw having shortened sweetly to 1.62 (61.7%).

Cristiano Ronaldo's goal saw Portugal clipped into odds of 1.12 (89.3%) to maintain their lead at the end of 90 minutes, with the draw trading at 8.80 (11.4%) and the Czech's at slim hopes of 180.00 (0.6%).

And so it would stay 1-0 as Portugal booked their spot for a semi-final against either Spance or France.

Coming up...

Tomorrow we will chart the 2nd quarter final of Euro 2012 as current tournament favourites Germany enter their quarter-final engagement with Greece at odds of 1.35 to finish the job within the 90 minutes.
