Inter Milan vs. Chelsea

Inter Milan vs Chelsea Jose Mourinho

In a space of a week, two important ties in the Champions League last 16 are held in the San Siro, Milano. Last week, we had Milan taking on Manchester United in a 2-3 goal galore match, this midweek, we will see city rivals Inter Milan taking on the Premiership leader, Chelsea, in their 1st leg match in the Champions league last 16. This tie will see former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho take on his former team and stop them from winning the only medal Chelsea has not being able to win in their history.

Inter Milan will enter the last 16 with high hopes and further than European conquest on a large scale with Mourinho. Like with his former club, Mourinho has not been able to break through the last stages of the Champions League with success getting into the Final. The domestic season seems to be in safe hands and the European campaign seems to be a priority at the moment. Inter drew 0-0 in the weekend against Sampdoria. Ivan Cordoba and Walter Samuel were sent off but they will be available for the Wednesday evening match, while Mario Balotelli, Davide Santon and Cristian Chivu are doubtful.

Chelsea will travel to the San Siro with high confidence amongst the team as London team has further the gap at the top of the Premier League. With the Premiership in safe hand, like Inter, Chelsea will be concentrating on their European campaign and that is where Manager Carlo Ancelotti has had great moments with Inter’s city rivals, Milan, by reaching the Champions League final twice, winning it once. Ancelotti returns to his spiritual home looking for a win but he will have to do it without Ashley Cole, Carvalho, Essien and Bosingwa. Frank Lampard will return to starting line up, after missing the 2-0 away win over Wolves, after recovering from a virus.

If anything is to go by the result between Milan and Manchester United then we are in for a cracker between inter and Chelsea. This is an interesting matchup as Mourinho will want to get one over their former team while Ancelotti’s past will see him doing everything he can to stop Inter’s European run. Ancelotti’s pedigree is second to none and since he is returning home to the San Siro, they are in for a shout to win this first leg. Inter are weak favourites but a surprise Blue cannot be underestimated. Betsson are offering odds 2.65 Chelsea to win.
