A New BettingExpert Design

Aug 29th, 2012 - Posted by in Other

bettingexpert's vision is to challenge the igaming industry through innovation, transparency and social responsibility.

Today we are launching a new logo and navigation design on BettingExpert and we'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. On the blog today we give you the BettingExpert community an insight into the thinking behind our new look.

A Quick History Of BettingExpert

The old BettingExpert logo was created in 2009 and the design was developed in 2010. The former design was mostly created by freelancers hired through a 99designs competition. That was (properly) the right thing to do back then when we didn't have any designers.

The main problem with the old design was that it didn't feel particularly professional. Which makes sense as it was created before BettingExpert was truly professionalized.

Since then BettingExpert has grown substantially. The graph below shows the growth in visitors over the past two years on a month-by-month basis.

We have over 30 people working at BettingExpert (and a few other projects) in our Copenhagen office. Add to this invaluable community managers, editors, and writers from the UK, Belgium, Malta and Australia. And over the last couple of months we have grown our blog significantly, now containing posts from over 15 extremely talented bloggers. Last but definitely not least, our outstanding community is growing very quickly. We have around 17,000 registered users, many of whom contribute their betting tips to the site.

Thus, we are growing and becoming an increasingly professional company. We want a logo and design who express just this.

The New BettingExpert Logo

The most important task in the logo design is to express who we are. We see ourselves as:

  • Human not corporate
  • Trustworthy but not boring
  • Authoritative but not paternalistic
  • Humorous but not silly
  • Honest but not naive
  • Interactive but high quality
  • Not like the other companies in the betting industry

The new BettingExpert logo is derived from Helvetica Neue LT STD. We have customized all letters to make them fit the B and made the second e from scratch. The e can be seen as a stop watch or a compas. The watch shows we are heavily invested in sports, and the compas shows we help navigate through good and bad betting tips and advices.

The New Navigation

The old navigation had three layers and was quite hard to update and hold consistent across the different language versions of BettingExpert. We have created a two layered drop down menu which hopefully makes it easier to find the content you need and explore new content on BettingExpert.

So what do you think?

Now it's time for you to share your thoughts about the new design. Feel free to post your feedback and opinions in the comments section below. We're looking forward to hearing what the great BettingExpert community thinks about our new design!

Thanks for letting us know guys. The notifications should now work again. Keep any comments coming [image]

Same problem as profitt, notifications for comments on tips cannot be followed (when clicking, redirects to frontpage and notification is still there).

Is everything in order with notifications? The latest one I have received still appears no matter I have clicked on it couple of times in different sessions.

@Thomas: much better, now everything seems ok.

On the other side - notifications box could be changed, now it is black box with orange on white letters - barely readable (before redesign this box had much larger contrast)

@ZeljkoM are you still experiencing layout issues?

I love it! Black and white !

please check layout in google chrome and Opera browsers, search box in the upper right is somehow wrongly positioned.

Here are some suggestions, but they are not directly related with newest design changes. It would be nice to have show/hide button for trial tipsters picks on betting tips page. Also community feed is separate for all languages but English. English version of site has all feeds together, but not only feeds in English apart.

Thanks for all the feedback, gang. Working through them and improving the bugs ASAP. Please keep posting feedback and thoughts - much appreciated!

Icons in upper right corner in Chrome look nice now [image]

Ive got the same problem with those comments (need to log in though I am already).

@alcuni: read the post of Henrik.

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed. Why does the enter key automatically send double space? Just look at the formating from my last comment... If some mod could edit it and format it better, I would be gratefull.

It is great to have the design updated. There are a few things that I personally dislike: -The most important must be the time span for the comments, which has been changed from oldest->latest to latest first->oldest last. This makes it missleading, because if I post a tip and then want to recommend the readers on something else, I want my recommendation to be on top so people read it and not at the bottom of the page. -The new logo is great, looks simple and to the point, but the top of the page seems a bit dull with just white. It might be a personal prefference though. -As alcuni commented, the site now automatically logs you out without really logging you out, meaning it still lets you try to comment or post a new tip, but when you click on "Post" the "must log in" message pops up. That is a bit annoying... -You might be aware of this, because it's been going on for a month or so, but on Firefox the graphs on a profile do not display correctly everytime, and sometimes show one after the other with the rest of the page over them. Could post a screenshot if you don't know what I mean. -Last, and it's last because I suspect you are already on it, I would LOVE to have the editing tools we have for comments on the new tips too, they are great, thanks for that. Wouldn't hurt if we could use BBCode though... Apart from the new design, it would also be great to have comment pages. When a tip or blog post has lots of comments, it takes very long to load and it would be much better to have only ~10 or 15 comments load. As for Lukica's comment, you can delete the browsing history without reinstalling Chrome. I haven't tried, but that may work instead of reinstalling it all over again. Now, don't get me wrong, I think you made a great job but I wanted to give my feedback. Yes, it's mostly negative... but the good feedback is already implied, I believe it is, overall, a good change. Keep up the good work!

nice new design but i had a small problem

I tried to write a comment to one of my pick but, even I was logged in, the script saying all the time you must log in to write a comment

after some logouts and logins . now I was able to write a comment:)

I am using firefox and looks ok

but how can I do edit a prediction///just in case, tx

It's a great new design, just signed up a few days ago :)

Still learning a lot therefore enjoying my time spent on your site!

Well i found the solution.. For all who have problems with Crome, you have to unistall it and delete all cookies( when uninstalation starts tick box that says: Delete browsing history) and then instal it again.. Now all looks nice..

Upper right corner doesn't look nice in Chrome, part of the page where are notifications, profile and new tip icons.

take look at screenshot i made.. It is imposible for me to post tips or enter my profile.. Non of the icons are clickable. please fix it, i dont like IE

@Lukica: I'm glad it looks good in IE! Can you tell me more about your experience in Chrome?

@greekbanker23: You have a good point. We have removed the dashboard functionality. Instead you now have the option to edit/update your tips when you enter your own profile. So just click on your name in the top right corner and in the bottom of the page you will see "My Tips".

Anyway you should still get a notification once you have tips needing update.

It does not look good in crome. but in internet explorer looks good..

Looks quite solid.

However, I`ve noticed a problem with the dashboard? Because I can`t find anywhere the option to input results etc.

Thanks in advance.
