Lille vs. Liverpool

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

RyanBabelLille

Lille will be hosting Liverpool in their UEFA Europa League round of 16 opener in France for the 1st leg. It will certainly be one of the tightest games in the last 16. Liverpool are one of the surviving teams that made it to the last 16 via. the champions League while Lille have got to this stage through their own merits. Both teams will be looking for a safe passage to the next round.

The French team are looking forward to challenge themselves after they eases past the Danish champion, FC Copenhagen, 6-2 on aggregate over the two legs of the last 32 in the Europa League. Lille hardly broke a sweat and looked convincing in the last round.  On Thursday, they might have to put up their guard as they host the famous red shirts five times European Cup winners from Merseyside on Thursday. Lille managed to draw 1-1 away against Saint-Etienne and that will keep them 5th in the Ligue 1. The French side will hope that Ben Arfa will come well on Thursday as he does well in the European scenes.

FC Liverpool will cross the channel to meet Lille for a place in the semifinals in the Europa League. The Reds are no strangers in the latter stages of European competitions and last time they got this far in this competition, it was back in the 2001/02 season where they were crowned winners. This is the last call for Liverpool if they want some silverware this season, they have lost pace in the premiership, losing to Wigan 1-0 on Monday, out of the of FA Cup and League Cup so the Europa League could redeem much of a lost season for Liverpool. Manager Rafa Benitez will be see to that both Gerrard and Torres will be fit for action and hopefully take a good result back to Anfield for next week’s encounter. Liverpool are slowly picking up pace as their most of their key members are fit to fight for the rest of the campaign.

Lille will meet Liverpool for the first time ever in their history and what an important one it is. Liverpool might be favorites to go through to the next round but it will be a tricky first leg encounter. Lille are a good home team and certainly many teams found it hard to break the Frenchmen down on foreign soil. Liverpool will be cautious and they do have some defensive selection problem at the back so expect a draw at least from Liverpool

Liverpool vs. Blackburn

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

torres blackburn

Liverpool returns to Anfield after disappointingly collecting only a point out of last two away games in the Premiership. Their opponent, Blackburn, are looking to cause a stir when they face the mighty reds at Anfield on Sunday afternoon. This will be a contest that both teams will go all out attack in order to get their hands on the three points.

Liverpool needs to resurrect their season by claiming their stakes on the fourth and last Champions League spot available in the Premiership. Their last two domestic games were a display of strategic and tactical deployed by master tactician himself, Benitez. He saw the return of Torres and Yossi Benayoun in their European Europa League campaign. They also advanced to the last 16 winning their 2nd leg match 3-1 and prized with an encounter with the French opposition, Lille, in two weeks time. Benitez faces defensive problem as Martin Skrtel suffered a broken metatarsal in the midweek and Sotirios Kyrgiakos is still out suspended.

Blackburn will travel to Liverpool with high hopes of getting something out this tie after their 3-0 win home against Bolton last weekend. Manager Sam Allardyce will certainly not tinker with a winning team but unfortunately he will have to replace captain Ryan Nelsen as he is sideline with a knee injury. Chris Samba will return to the starting lineup after serving his suspension against Bolton. There is a chance that Allardyce might give Yildiray Basturk a much awaited debut from the start while David Dunn, Franco Di Santo and Steven Reid all prepared to play a part in the grand scheme. Veteran Michel Salgado could once again deputize at the back for Blackburn.

The odds are stack against Sam Allardyce as he has never won a league game at Anfield in seven attempts. The best he has come up with against Liverpool was back in 2002 with a draw and the rest from there ended in defeats. Blackburn looks to have a mammoth task ahead of that as Liverpool are back into winning ways with Steven Gerrard leading the way. Torres could get a surprise start but the bench could be his best bet. Betsson are offering odds 1.35 for a home win for Liverpool.

Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool vs Everton

Super weekend in the Premiership and it all starts with a Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield Road in the early noon kickoff. The battle for Merseyside went to the Reds earlier this season when these two teams met at Goodison Park back in November. Therefore, much revenge is on the minds of the Blues half of Liverpool while the Red half will be expecting a win over their bitter rival once again.

Liverpool are getting most of their points at Anfield. Their record speaks for themselves as they are 8 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats in front of their own fans. This could prove that Liverpool are pretty confident at home compared to their away form. The return of Albert Riera and captain Steven Gerrard have been immense for the team. Their width has certainly been busy lately and drawn good reviews of their play. Manager Rafa Benitez believes his team can turn things around and a win against Everton will cement that they will not give up so easily after their poor start of the season. Liverpool will be without Benayoun, El Zahir and Fernando Torres.

Everton have been playing some brilliant football of the late and that could be because of the players returning back from injuries. Some key members of the squad like Cahill and Pienaar are really pulling through for Everton. They were able to get four wins and a draw (against Arsenal away) out of five of their most recent games. That is the sort of form that any Everton fan would be glad to hear going into the Merseyside derby. There is no doubt the blue half of Liverpool are looking forward to take on their rivals at this moment of time.

This game is pretty even by the looks of both teams situation. Liverpool is missing a few key players but managing to get the three points at home while Everton have something to prove with their good form. Anything can happen in the derby and it will be a fierce one as both are in search for points. Liverpool is without Torres and that could spur Everton on to win this match. Liverpool does well against their rivals, beating Manchester United and Everton, even in the midst of their dipping form. Benitez to mastermind the derby, Betsson is offering odds at 1.78 Liverpool to do the double over Everton.

Premier League: Liverpool vs. Tottenham

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Liverpool will play Tottenham, this Wednesday, in the rearranged postponed game originally set to be played in the second weekend of the New Year. Liverpool poor form continues into the New Year and facing Tottenham is not what they want at this moment, but the show must go on and these three points will be vital for the fight for the Champions League spot next season.

Rafa Benitez might have regretted not to have played this game on the originally date. He had a fit Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Yossi  Benayoun just a few ago but now he struggles to find a player to lead his attacking momentum. He did manage to field seven defensive players in the 1-1 draw against Stoke City last weekend. Liverpool had to scrap their passing flow momentum and drew out long balls up to David Ngog’s head, without any dividends. Although, Liverpool was dangerous in set pieces and once again conceded in the last minutes of the game. A good display with what is left with the squad but certainly not the expected performance from Liverpool. Albert Riera or Maxi Rodriguez could get the nod to start at Anfield, while Daniel Agger is doubtful.

Tottenham is also finding it hard in the winter periods as they have been hit on mostly off the field incidents. Robbie Keane outraged Harry Redknapp with the party and the manager, himself, getting into troubles with the tax. However, on the field, things are slowly progressing but there is a bit of momentum lost infront of goal, as Spurs draw blanks against Hull City last weekend 0-0 draw. Tottenham have lost Assou-Ekotto, Hutton, Woodgate, Pavlyuchenko and Cudicini to injuries. Both Ledley Kind and Aaron Lennon are doubtful to face Liverpool.

Liverpool would have never guessed that they would be without Gerrard and Torres for this match. To makes matter worse, Liverpool are in need of points to keep pace with the teams above them and Benitez is looking uncertain as manager of the Liverpool. Tottenham looks weak favorite against Liverpool and could well take all three points back to North London.

Premier League: Liverpool vs. Tottenham

THIS GAME IS POSTPONED DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES!!

Super Sunday and Liverpool will host Tottenham for their first match of the year at Anfield Road. Last time these two team met at Anfield, Liverpool won their last game of the season 2008/09 3-1 where former Liverpool player, Robbie Keane, scored for Tottenham. Last time there was nothing to play for, this time it is all to play for as next season’s Champions League spot is on the line.

A good stats for you all out there, Steven Gerrard has scored Liverpool’s first league goal of a calendar year in four of the last nine seasons. Manager Rafa Bentiez will be counting on his captain to repeat this trademark to get his team off to a good start in the Premiership. Liverpool went with a 4-4-2 system in the FA Cup encounter against Reading FC and got a reply this coming Wednesday. They are looking to avoid a draw here and get all the three points instead. Glen Johnson is not available while Javier Maschanero is still out injured and serving his last of his four match suspension.

Tottenham are looking to emulate their neighbors, Arsenal, in winning at Anfield. Liverpool has never lost both North London rivals in the same league campaign but Manager Harry Redknapp could find a way to end that. He will certainly have health squad going to Anfield as they are one of the most inform teams in the Premiership. Spurs beat Peterborough 4-0 in the FA Cup and saw the return of Luka Modric in the starting lineup.

This will be a tough one for Liverpool. They know that Tottenham is improving game by game and their squad players are definitely on par with them. It will all go down who wants it more on the day. Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane in the season opener and former Liverpool players, Peter Crouch and Robbie Keane could cause havoc in the Liverpool’s defense.

FA Cup: Reading vs. Liverpool

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

fernando-torres22

The FA Cup magic is back and Reading will be hosting the mighty Reds from Liverpool on Saturday late afternoon kickoff. Reading FC will certainly see this as a glorious tie with a bit of money in the coffin but by all means, no shame if they lose to the Premiership team. Liverpool are favorites to beat Reading in the FA Cup 3rd round.

Reading will be thinking to themselves whether this is a good time to meet Liverpool in the FA Cup. They know their opponent are struggling in their recent form earlier December but the Christmas period saw the Reds back into their normal stride of winning. This is certainly giving some headaches for Reading in the upcoming FA cup fixture. They are currently 20th in the Championship and lost 4-1 away last weekend to Plymouth. More misery are heading toward Reading.

The Christmas saw Liverpool take two wins out of two games. A deep injury winner from Fernando Torres against Aston Villa saw Liverpool climb back into the Champions league contentions and back to winning ways. Rafa Benitez will want to make some impression in this competition as this could gave some silverware that Liverpool are longing for since the Premiership title and Champions League title are derailed. Liverpool will travel to Reading without Albert Riera and Glen Johnson, who could be out for months with a knee injury.

Fernando Torres is the man to watch at Reading. Last time these two teams met was in the Carling Cup and the Torres scored his first hat trick in English football. That night was surely memorable for some Liverpool fans and surely a repeat of this could certainly once again become reality. Although, never doubt the FA Cup spirit, Reading will have something up their sleeves.

Premier League: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

image-2-for-liverpool-vs-aston-villa-gallery-863943469

This is one of the biggest ties this midweek when Liverpool FC travels to Birmingham to face Aston Villa at Villa Park on a cold Tuesday evening. This one is for the top half of the Premiership and also the status of challenging for the Champions League spot for next season. Liverpool are looking to regain their status as the Big 4 while Villa are preventing them.

The 3-0 defeat to Arsenal last Sunday was a bit tough for Aston Villa to take. They could not match with Arsenal on sheer technical skills or the fast pace football for a place in the top 4. Manager Martin O’Neill will have to put aside the defeat and concentrate on another contender for the Champions League spot. Having to play 2 strong sides in 2 days, Villa might be a bit rattled but surely a better performance on Tuesday night is expected from the Villains. Former Liverpool players, Emile Heske, Brad Friedal and Stephan Warnock are set to face this former club while Ashley will serve one match suspension starting against Liverpool.

Liverpool are still trying to turn things around and they managed to do it against Wolves last Saturday when they won 2-0. Although, Wolves were on par with Liverpool all the way up until the sending off of Wolves S. Ward in the 2nd half. Liverpool struggled to create open chances and they look far off from their awesome form from last season. Manager Rafa Benitez will have to spur on his men to get him another 3 points. Javier Mascherano and Albert Riera are still injured

Liverpool are not full back to their top form while Aston Villa are riding on the positive tides. Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are still not at their top form yet but it is slowly coming around. The Reds know how important this game is if they want to be back on the top of things, while the Villains knows how to stop them as they beat Liverpool 3-1 earlier this season

Premier League: Liverpool vs. Wolverhampton

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

steven-gerrard

Growing frustrations are mounting up in the Liverpool camp while Manager Rafa Benitez is under heavy pressure to win or find himself out with a job just like former Manchester City’s manager, Mark Hughes. It hasn’t been the best of times for the Reds, winning only three of their last 14 matches. A defeat against the Wolves on Boxing Day could spell the end of Benitez’s reign in Liverpool FC.

Fernando Torres expressed his opinion that Liverpool simply needs more money if they were to compete with the best. Liverpool prolific striker noted that Liverpool are going through a bad patch and firing countryman Rafa Benitez, is not the solution to the crisis. Torres will partner up with Steven Gerrard once again in the Liverpool lineup and they will be hoping for all three points after a disappointing showing last weekend against Portsmouth.  Javier Mascherano is injured and will be serving a four match ban.

Wolverhampton are slowly gathering pace in the Premier League and they sit firmly 12th on the table. They won their last 3 out of four games and that was enough to put Manager Mick McCarthy in a festive mood as he travels with his team to Anfield. Their latest away game came under strong criticism over the controversial starting lineup in the 309 defeat to Manchester United. That day, McCarthy chose to rest 10 of his starting first team players and could he be repeating this on Boxing Day? Wolves are still without Edwards, Keogh, Kightly and Murray.

The Anfield crowd are expecting a win against Wolves on Boxing Day but the rest of the world could be sitting tightly and watch Liverpool crumble altogether on Christmas. Nothing more than a win will put Benitez back on track as he hunts down the good form they had last year. If further misery should come upon Liverpool then it might not come at Anfield, maybe somewhere else. Liverpool are weak favorites.

Premier League: Portsmouth vs. Liverpool

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Glen Johnson is doubtful for Liverpool as he returns to face his former team at Fratton Park.

Glen Johnson is doubtful for Liverpool as he returns to face his former team at Fratton Park.

Inconsistency would be the word best describe for both team’s situation as they meet at Fratton Park in the early kickoff on this coming Saturday.  Portsmouth are struggling at the bottom of the Premier League while Liverpool are struggling to keep up with the top half of the table. Crisis point has gone and past for both clubs but could there be another one coming up?

Portsmouth are doing better under current manager, Avram Grant, collecting a point away against Sunderland last weekend and brave out a performance in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the midweek. Things are looking up and Grant knows that if he was to get his team out of relegation then they will need to win all of their home games for a start. Pompey will have Younes Kaboul available again after serving his suspension.

Liverpool resurrection did not come against Arsenal last weekend as they were defeat in Anfield 2-1 and alarm bells were ringing. That was until their midweek fixture against Wigan where they ran out 2-1 winners on the night. Fernando Torres started on the bench and came on to score the winner, he could well start against Portsmouth. As things stand, Manager Rafa Benitez could be travelling to Portsmouth with his strongest side available apart from Babel, El Zhar and Riera. Glen Johnson is rated doubtful.

Tension could be rattling for the team who loses on the day. The problems are mounting and the only way to get out of this mess is to win and get that 3 points. Benitez made a promise to make the Champions League next season and Liverpool have been playing better lately as the team is slowly returning to full strengthen. Portsmouth are struggling defensively and that could cost points against better teams.
