Big Brother is a popular reality TV show which has enjoyed prime-time slots on television stations around the world. The show began in the Netherlands in 1999 and has since gone onto global domination, the UK version of the show began in 2000 and enjoyed high viewer figures from the off. However, due to a recent year-on-year slump in those figures this summer’s show will be the last to be screened on Channel 4.

As a result of the decision to axe the programme Big Brother 2010 betting could prove to be the last chance for reality TV bettors to put some money on the trials and tribulations of their favourite show.
Proceedings began on Wednesday 9 June 2010 when 14 housemates were chosen to enter the Big Brother house. The ‘lucky’ 14 were Ben, Caoimhe, Corin, Dave, Govan, John James, Josie, Ife, Mario, Nathan, Rachael, Shabby, Steve and Sunshine.

Immediately housemates began to form the inevitable likes and dislikes for fellow housemates and factions and divides were formed within the ranks.
The first eviction night took place on day 10 when Rachael was given her marching orders and punters were given their first opportunity to bet on Big Brother 2010 evictions. Evictions are subsequently scheduled for each successive Friday evening with the inevitable ‘surprise eviction’ thrown in for good measure.
The Big Brother winner market can often be an extremely volatile betting market with the favourite to win often changing numerous times throughout the course of a summer. 2010 Big Brother Betting odds have already changed numerous times in the early stages of this year’s show with Corin, Steve and Josie all commanding favouritism at one stage or another in the opening weeks.

There have also been upsets in the betting odds this year in the usually accurate eviction betting markets. In week three Shabby was the clear, odds on favourite to be evicted but instead Sunshine, who was a 15/1 chance to be given her marching orders, left via the front door.
The moral of the story is that although the online bookmakers can be a very good guide to reality TV shows, they are not 100% accurate and are just as fallible as any other betting market. Big Brother betting opportunities may be few and far between following Big Brother 2010, so stock up while you can.
