Oscars 2011

To win an Oscar is the pinnacle of any director, writer, actor or actress’s career. Oscars, or Academy Awards as they are otherwise known, are awarded to actors, actresses, directors, producers and writers who are adjudged to have produced works of excellence in the film industry within the previous 12 months.

The awards ceremony is seen as one of the most lavish and prestigious events in the calendar and now traditionally takes place in late January of each year. Over 5,000 members of the Academy of motion Picture Arts and Sciences vote on who they believe deserves the award in each category with the results being revealed live on the night of the ceremony.

The 2010 Oscars were dominated by two films and two directors. James Cameron’s Avatar and Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker led the pre-ceremony betting in all of the major categories with The Hurt Locker emerging victorious with six awards and Avatar taking three.

Although there are many awards categories, the most prestigious of awards are considered to be Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Picture and Best Director. Oscars 2011 betting will as ever be dominated by these categories as punters try to second guess the opinions of the voting members. That, however, has proved to be an extremely difficult task with a number of surprise winners being thrown up over the years.

Aside from the main awards categories you can also bet on Oscars 2011 specials. Bookmakers will offer head to head betting odds on which movie will receive the most number of awards, how many awards a particular movie will win, whether a best director and best film double will be achieved and many, many more intriguing and puzzling Oscar betting opportunities.

If you are looking for the best odds on Oscars 2011 and the best array of markets, then Bwin tend to be the most comprehensive in this area. They offer a range of early specials and a wide selection of markets once the nominations have been announced to the public.

So if you consider yourself a bit of a film buff, then why not make all that popcorn munching pay-off with a bet on Oscars 2011?
