Wimbledon 2010 Betting Odds

Wimbledon betting The tournament has been held at the All England Club in the London since 1877, It's the oldest and the most respected tennis tournament. So it's naturally also the oldest Grand Slam tournament and the only one which is still played on grass. This Wimbledon tournament is more than tennis: the audience are eating strawberries and cream, formal dress code for players and ball boys and girls, royal members are represent. We hope you will find this Wimbledon wiki as a useful Wimbledon 2010 preview.

Pete Sampras has taken here 7 titles and Bjoern Borg and Roger Federer 6 each. Martina Navratilova won 9 titles in singles and 7 in doubles and 4 in mix. The 2008 gentleman's final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is still the longest (nearly five hours of play) and it took almost seven hours due to rain before the winner was resolved (Nadal). In 2009, Roger Federer reached the Final and defeated Robin Soderling to take his 6th Wimbledon Title and honoured in the Hall of Fame.

The 2010 Wimbledon

The tournament starts on Monday 21st of June. It's scheduled for fourteen days. There is no play on the 'Middle Sunday', because of the insistence of England Church. There are five main events: Gentleman's Singles, Ladies Singles, Gentleman's Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Juniors have their own events: Boy's Singles, Boy's Doubles, Girl's Singles and Girl's Doubles.

Additionally there are also Invitational Events: Gentleman's Invitation Doubles, Senior Gentleman's Invitation Doubles, Ladies Invitation Doubles and Gentleman's Wheelchair Doubles. A total of 128 players shall be playing in each single event, 64 pairs in each doubles event and 48 pairs in mixed doubles. 32 male and female players are seeded in singles and 16 teams are seeded in doubles. The prize money in 2009 was £775,000 in gentleman's and ladies single championship and the double winners were given £229,000.

Due to the possibility of rain or extremely hot weather during Wimbledon, a retractable roof has been planned for the court and has now been completed: The retractable roof ban be closed/opened in under 10 minutes. The court has a capacity of 15,000. There is also the Royal Box, from which members of the Royal Family watch matches. Centre Court usually hosts the finals and semifinals of the main events and also top-seeded players play there in the earlier rounds.

The hard court season is not over yet and then comes clay season. So it's very difficult to make deep analysis about players. But I would like to give some thoughts about players who has succeeded on grass in a past or who are black horses on this year's tournament. We hope the following info will be useful for your Wimbledon tips.

Wimbledon 2009 Betting

Wimbledon Betting Guide: MEN

1. Rafael Nadal (#1) is 23 years old very talent all-courter. His best surface is still clay, but he has showed his capability to play also on other surfaces. His career record on grass is 31-7. Rafa will return to Wimbledon after being ruled out last year as he picked up an injury. He has been drawn on the opposite sides of Roger Federer so they will only meet in the Final if everything goes accordingly. He is one of the favourites to win Wimbledon and his main weapons are fast movement, left-handed and mental and physical power. Without any injuries he'll play on the final also on this year (or Murray).

2. Roger Federer (#2) is IMO still the best player in the universe although he has not succeeded lately like one has expected. His grass record is 81-12 including the 6 Wimbledon titles in a row between '04 -'09. Last season saw Roger take his sixth successive Wimbledon title as he defeated swedish Andy Roddick in an epic five set which gave way to a 16-14 win in the final set tiebreak. Federer is known for his love for the grass and his success based to his wide selections of strikes, strong groundstrokes from both wings, very hard readable serve, heavily kicked second serve and amazing smooth movement on court. He is also very tough in mentally like all TOP-players. He is my 1st choice to take the title again here!

3. Novak Djokovic (#3) has been two years one pf the top players in the Tennis circuit. The Mole has dissapointed in recent years at Wimbledon but he did reach the semis in Wimbledon '07. This season has not started as expected, but he will improve! But grass is not his but surface and I can't see him on the final. A serve and volley player but like to fight from the baseline. One to watch.

4. Andy Murray (#4) could be the first player in UK since Fred Perry in 1936, reach the WImbledon Final. The Scot is very talent hard surfaces player and his returns are one of the best in the world. Andy has beaten tough players like Roddick, Nadal and Federer but unable to pick up any Grand Slam silverware yet. Unfortunately he has suffered from few injuries. He has all weapons to be at least on Quarterfinals and shown great grit by making the Seimifinals in 2009. He could be ready for an appearance in the final but he will need to overcome his fear of losing.

There are also a few players who can be quite higher like Hewitt, Gasquet, Ancic, Cilic and Monfils. Also oldies Hewitt, Clement and Schuettler can make surprises! Anyway IMO Federer will take the championship again and his opponent in the final will be Nadal or Murray! Wimbledon 2009 Betting Guide

Wimbledon Betting Guide: WOMEN

1. Serena Williams (#1) won the title here two years in a row ('02 - '03), runner-up in '05 and winning Wimbledon last year. Amazingly she was the runner-up in '08 losing to his sister but beat her sister in '09! Serena is a tough player  and she will be the favourite of bookies! Watch out for her ground strokes and her serves, they are quick.

2. Venus Williams (#2) has won the championship here five times and now chasing her sixth after coming off a defeat last year to her sister! Venus usually come to her greatness when the grass season comes along. She has more quailties amongst the sibling war on grass. Therefore Serena is higher in my ranking just now!

3. Carol Wozniacki (#3) have not won any Grand Slam titles and she went out of Wimbledon in the fourth round last year. Her recent form has suggest that she could be one for the future to take over the Williams reign. She has a few proven track records in playing on a high consistency  during the WTA tour. Wimbledon will be a place for her to test out her hard work. This could include that she might get into the latter stages of the tournament. One to watch.

4. Maria Sharapova (#4) will return to Wimbledon in a offering to put herself back into contention of the top half of the female tennis rankings. She has dogged with injuries and slowly improving her former Wimbledon champion form. The most beautiful female player won the title here in '04 and has been twice in the semis. Maria is real fighter and I'm sure this tournament will be one of his main targets on this season! At least she will be on the Quarterfinals and perhaps will challenge Williams sisters seriously.

Jankovic (3 times 4th round), Vaidisova ( 2 times Quarterfinals) and Bartoli (the runner-up '07) are also players who can be quite high here! Anyway the situation in women's side is much more open! Williams sisters are favourites, but I think Sharapova, Justin Henin and Kim Clijster will challenge them if she will totally rebound!

Good luck you all and let's meet again before Wimbledon. Make sure to check back for good 2010 Wimbledon picks!
