English League 1 Picks
League 1 is one of the three main competitions the Football League manages in England and Wales. Coca-Cola League One has been re-branded several times. Its original league competition name was the Football League Second Division, this changed to Division Two when when the split of the top clubs to form a super league, The Premier League, took place in 1992. By the season of 2004-05 it became known as League 1.
League 1 or The Coca-Cola Football League 1 is one of the three divisions that the Football League governing body organises (The Championship League, League 1 and League 2) every season. It is the second highest league in the Football League divisions and the third highest league competition overall in the English leagues standing competition (on the top is The Premiership League and followed by The Coca-Cola Championship League).
Competition
There are 24 clubs in the League One. The season starts from August to May. Like any other football league, each club plays each other once in their respected stadium. The table is ranked according to their points and at the end of the season, whoever gets the highest overall points is crowned the champion of this league division with the trophy and automatic promotion to The Championship League.
Point System
Twenty four clubs play each other twice, home and away game. The losing team gets nothing while winner of gets three points and if the game is a tie, each team gets 1 points. When the season ends, like mentioned above, the team that gets the highest overall points on the table will be crowned the Champion in the Coca-Cola League One. When there is a tie on the top of the table, the goal difference and then goals scored will play a crucial part in deciding who the Champion will be.
Promotion
The Coca-Cola Championship football league will have 3 spots available for the promotion of the clubs from the Coca-Cola League 1. The two top clubs will get the spot automatically while the third spots will be battled by the 3rd to 6th placer on the table on a play-off match. The third placer club will play against the 6th placer and the 4th plays against the 5th in two-legged matched, the winner of the final play-off will get the last spot for The Championship League.
Relegation
The relegation in League 1 differs, compare to the top leagues where only the three bottom teams relegated, in League 1, the 4 bottom teams will be demoted to the League 2. They will be replaced by the top 3 clubs from League 2 and the winner of the Play-Off Finals of the 4th to 7th placers in the League 2.
It might not be as popular as the other league competitions but the Football League sustains and fuels football growth in the football world. This growth is evident in the continuing interest of big commercial sponsorships and revenue and this is also evident in the League 1. The potential of waging and making serious money in League 1 is possible and not a far fetch. Enjoy and Goodluck!
