Team GB: The Defending Champions
There are a total of
542 athletes selected to represent Team GB, an increase nearly that nearly
double the size that they had during the 29th Olympics in Beijing
where they finished fourth in the medal table after accumulating 47 medals
overall. With years of preparations, Team GB 2012 will try to expand their medals
in other sports while looking to build upon their success in the disciplines
that they excelled four years ago when they amazed 19 golds, 13 silver and 15

likes of Andy Murray (Tennis), Tom Daley (Diving), Paula Radcliff (Marathon),

The Defender in Team GB
Women's 400m

Defending Champion
Christine Ohuruogu is returning for the Olympics 2012. The only gold medalist in athletics in Beijing, she will be the defending champion for the 400M race.
Men's 1000m K-1

Defending Champion
Team GB had their first ever gold in canoeing when Tim Brabants. Defending his title, the 35 year old will make his fourth Olympic appearance and will be the hope for the Men's Kayak Single (K1) 1000m Canoeing.
Men's Team Pursuit

Only two of the defending team who won in Beijing, ED Clancy and Geraint Thomas, will appear defend their title. Paul Manning and Bradley Wiggins who is concentrating in the Tour de France will be replaced by Steven Burke, Peter Kennaugh and Andy Tennant.
Men's Keirin

Defending Champion
Chris Hoy had gold in Men’s sprint, Men’s team sprint and keirin in the 2008 Summer Olympic in Beijing. Due to the changes in the rules for the Men’s sprint where only one rider can race, the 36-year-old Scottish might not be able to defend his title. Nonetheless, he has Keirin to contend with.
Men's Sprint

Jason Kenny won the gold in Men’s sprint along with Chris Hoy four years ago in China. Unlike Hoy, the possibility of him defending his title is immense after beating his compatriot in the recent World Championship where he finished second in the sprinting event.
Women's Sprint

Defending Champion
Victoria Pendleton, the pin-up girl stormed in Beijing after winning the first two races of the best-of-three in the track cycling. The 31-year-old Pendleton will not only participate in the Women’s sprint to defend her title but will also be part of the team sprint squad and will race for the keirin event.
Women's Road Race

Defending Champion
Like Tim Brabants, Nicole Cooke help Team GB secured their first gold in the Women’s road race with the help of team-mage Emma Pooley in Beijing Olympics. She will be defending her title in this event with the help of her team-member.
Men's Coxless Four

Defending Champion
Tom James, Andrew Triggs Hodge, Peter Reed will defend their Rowing title in the men’s coxless four without Steve Williams who retired from the game. Instead, they will be joined by Alex Gregory.
Men's Lightweight Doubles Scull

Defending Champion
Winning the first ever lightweight rowing medal for Team GB, Mark Hunter and Zac Purchase will be both present to defend their title.
Men's Finn Class

Defending Champion
The most successful Olympic sailor in Team GB, Ben Ainslie who won three gold medals in the last three Olympic games (Sydney, Athens, Beijing) is back on the water to defend his Finn Class title. Winning first in the recent Finn World Championship, the 35-year-old’s prospect to securing another gold for the fourth consecutive row is looking positively good.

Defending Champion
The two-time gold medalist in Beijing, Rebecca Adlington will defend her Swimming women’s 400m and winning her second medal for 800m free style in style by setting a world record. At last year’s World Championship, the 23-year-old swimmer won silver and gold respectively.
