Poker hand ranking
Every player gets 2 cards that the other players can not see. These are called hole cards or pocket cards. In addition, you get 5 community cards, which are exposed during the game to all participants. The goal is to get the best poker hand with 5 of 7 cards. It does not matter if 5 of your cards are made up of your own cards or the community cards.
Here is a poker hand ranking starting with a royal flush as the best combination and the high card as the worst one:

Royal Flush:
10 to Ace of a suit.

Straight Flush:
Five consecutive cards of a suit.

Four of a Kind:
Four cards of the same rank with one dissimilar card.

Full House:
Three cards of the same rank and two other cards with the same rank.

Flush:
Five cards of the same suit.

Straight:
Five consecutive cards of mixed suit.

Three of a Kind:
Three cards with the same rank with two dissimilar cards.

Two Pair:
Any two cards of the same rank plus any pair of another rank.

One Pair:
Any two cards with the same rank. 
-
High Card:
Just a highly ranked card, nothing else.
