Manchester City and Tottenham have joined the big four and the abyss created between these top six sides and the less resourceful clubs has grown exponentially. United will not have it easy this time around but as always they will be there fighting for the title until the very end. The competition will this time be represented by city rivals Manchester City so losing it will bring double the suffering.

Top six places set
London clubs Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea along with the two Manchester clubs and Liverpool will be occupying the top six places in May. Which team will be top of the list though? There is no definite answer there but a step by step analysis will be shooting down the London clubs more easily than the rest of the lot.
London off the radar
Wenger has once again embarked on a mission to prove the impossible possible. It may not have been up to him entirely this time but both Nasri and Fabregas matured their decision to leave because of the manager’s policy of trying to compete with the big boys by juggling smaller guns.
Chelsea never held back from spending the money and the enormous fee paid for Torres just last season proves that point. However, that money looks like having been thrown away now and with the Spaniard unable to up his game and a number of African players leaving for the African Cup of Nations in January that will be the period when a manager newly introduced to the Premier League world loses control. Abramovich might be just one step away from losing it himself and place his faith in Hiddink once again.
Tottenham have taken huge strides forward in recent years and the squad they put together looks more than decent and capable of surprises. Theirs is arguably the best midfield in the league, especially since they managed to be more stubborn than Modric and refused his transfer to Chelsea. With the likes of van der Vaart, Defoe and new arrival Adebayor they have fire power to back hat up as well, with Friedel a much more capable goalkeeper to guard their backs.
Title contenders
That leaves the Manchester clubs and Liverpool as the realistic candidates for the title with the latter depending too much on the verve, quality and determination of Suarez for goals. Carroll has not delivered what was expected of him and this lack of goals in the team may just hamper their chances along the way. Dalglish should still be capable of great things with the team if they could just overcome that goal drought.
The top dogs will have to include current champions Manchester United and the richest club Manchester City. The former have always been able to rely on Ferguson’s winning mentality and you have to expect them to be in the running until the very end. Their rivals will be City this time around and with Mancini arguably better when it comes to tactical wisdom and being able to count on a more solid unit overall it will be wise to consider their chances well.
Rock bottom
Wigan and Wolves still look like being too weak for permanence in the league. With the three newly promoted clubs, Swansea, Norwich and Queens Park Rangers looking more solid than previous newcomers to the English top flight the struggle of both Wigan and Wolves will be much tougher. One they will probably fail to keep up with. Blackburn may be another victim of financial breakdown and despite the quality players may eventually end up losing everything, with Venky’s hoping to make the profits as they sell off the precious assets and dismantle the club.
