Icons
The idea behind the new BettingExpert design was to create a web 2.0 based website with all the characteristics of a social community. This has included a lot of considerations regarding colour schemes, icons, and usability.
The website is mostly developed with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, whereas we've played around with some of the newest HTML5 and CSS3 features. E.g. we have added a lot of small CSS3 details such as text- and box-shadows, border-radius and mulitple-borders.
We have also added a lot of small nice-to-have features based on jQuery such as dynamically highlighting elements (Community Feed), dividing content into logical tabs to increase the usability (Free Tips), and transforming ordinary lists into beautiful galleries (Betting Previews).
Even though not all browsers fully support these technologies yet, we think that it's important to implement them as soon as possible to give some users an extra special experience - as long as the infirmation and message of the website remains the same. And we think we have achieved just that with the new BettingExpert design.
The icons
The icons are created in Adobe Illustrator CS5. We made a new icon pack in order to have a fully customized site and to make Bettingexpert even more user friendly. The community-icons are kept in the same color scheme, the blue colors, as the rest of BE which illustrates the web 2.0.
All sport-icons illustrate an element of the specific sport. E.g. the icon of Formula One is not a car but only the tire. Even though we are not showing a car, we at BettinExpert think, that we have managed to create a great package of new icons that illustrates the sports in a new creative way.
To give an impression of the wholeness of the site, we choose the icons to have rounded edges as the rest of the new design of BettingExpert.
