Ruth Carr has enjoyed a superb few weeks and her hot spell can continue with Dubai Dynamo in Ayr's Polyflor Handicap at 4.05 this afternoon.
The 7-y-o has been kept on the go all through this wet summer, and returned to his best when just touched off at Ripon seven days ago by the well backed and progressive Satanic Beat. This looks a drop in class with very few of his rivals at their peak and he is taken to grind out career victory number eleven under Frankie McDonald.
Main danger for the £16,000 prize money comes from Kevin Ryan's 3-y-o Indepub. He handled the very deep ground best when winning at Newcastle over this trip last time out, and will appreciate the forecast rain easing conditons further. The form of that race was boosted by Fire Ship at the weekend and he seems sure to go close with the promising 3lb claimer Julie Burke in the saddle.
Oriental Scot has been campaigned away from testing ground and showed what he is capable of when winning a decent Haydock handicap on fast ground in May. However, he has rather struggled since and there appeared few excuses when only seventh at Windsor 15 days ago.
Sam Nobulist has claims on his 25-1 shock York victory in June, (handled the soft ground best and got the better of Esprit de Midas with the pair drawing 7l clear of the third). However, he has shown his form only once this season and five heavy defeats are hard to excuse.
Karaka Jack is another who is hard to predict, winning at Doncaster on his seasonal debut but seemingly in the grip of the assesor since, while Colour Guard is badly out of sorts at present (like so many from the usually reliable Mark Johnston stable).
Perhaps Richard Fahey's veteran 8-y-o Extraterrestial will be the one to outrun his price. He has often hinted at better this season with midfield finishes in competitive handicaps, and perhaps the first time presence of 5lb claimer Shane B Kelly can galvanise him closer. The yard continues in blistering form and any rain would be a positive.
In summary, a handicap featuring some inconsistent northern handicappers who have failed to cut much ice recently. Topweight Dubai Dynamo is the exception and seems sure to go very close under optimum conditions. At around 7-2 this morning he is worth a decent sized win investment.
