Ed McMahon's classy Radio Gaga is selected in a wide open Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Eternal Stakes at Warwick this afternoon.
The 3-y-o filly was sunk without trace behind Homecoming Queen in the 1000 Guineas, seemingly failing to handle the very testing conditions. However, she showed when an excellent second in the Fred Darling Stakes on her seasonal reappearance that she had trained on, and these drying conditions at 7f will prove ideal. A wide draw in stall thirteen is not ideal, but Richard Mullen is sure to be alert at the gate and get her across into a handy position early on at this shaprp course, and she can quicken away in the closing stages if getting the breaks.
Main danger for this valuable listed prize comes from the William Haggas trained Diala. She was not unsupported in the Guineas, but also finished well held and the run is best ignored. The Iffraaj filly showed what she is capable of when readily winning a warm Newmarket maiden last October, and could easily bounce back from a good draw in stall three under regular rider Eddie Ahern.
Poisson D'Or is respected after quickening smartly to land a fair Newmarket maiden last time out. Rae Guest's filly had a bit to do at halfway there and is value for more than the final margin of victory. She is well up in class here however, and a wide draw in eleven will make life tough for one so inexperienced.
Intense Pink attracted cash at long odds in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot six days ago, but trailed home well beaten and does seem to need very deep ground to be seen at her best, while Richard Hannon's Free Verse is seemingly well exposed after failing to land a modest handicap last time, (well backed 3-1f but onepaced from some way out).
Perhaps Marco Botti's progressive Appealing may run well at a bigger price. The Bertolini filly has won two of her four starts to date, and really impressed when quickening clear at the furlong pole to win at Yarmouth last time. That was a warm handicap for the grade, with several horses well fancied from the big stables, and the turn of speed she showed there will stand her in good stead upped in class.
In summary, a high quality renewal with some well regarded fillies bidding to get their career's back on track. Radio Gaga appeals at around 7-1 this morning as a solid each-way proposition if managing to secure a decent early position from a wide draw.
