The two most exciting quarterbacks in the AFC are to face off this Saturday between the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos. On one side you have Tom Brady and the other is Tim Tebow. On Sunday the Ravens will host the Houston Texans.
New England Patriots vs. Denver Broncos
Saturday - 08:00PM ET
This is one tie you can’t miss, it is a truly a game of two Quarterbacks, on one side you have the New England Patriots own Tom Brady who has slowly found his form while Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow finally came great late in the season. The Patriots are 13-3 in the regular season and the three defeats were ones where Tom Brady went totally cold and now that has happened, it’s unlikely that any repeat of this is going to happen in the playoffs. The Patriots have gone eight straight games with a win before getting a day off during the wildcard round. They are fresh from a weekend off and winning 7 out of 8 games at home, they are favourites to go through to the next round. Both Wes Walker and Rob Gronkowski will be the ones celebrating in the end zone on Saturday.
The Denver Broncos have all to do to defy any critics out there. They are just one step away from the Conference round but of course, they will need to get past the hot favourites, New England Patriots. We all saw how the Broncos took out the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime with 29-23 win. It was all down to the comeback king, Tim Tebow, unorthodox in many ways but what is most important is the win, because that is what counts at the end of the day. An 80 yard touchdown throw to Demaryius Thomas and that should give chills to any team that faces them, but more obvious is the faith headcoach John Fox has in Tebow. There is still at times a lack of concentration from the defense side but with the electrifying plays and never ending fight, the Denver Broncos could amaze on the East Coast or fall flat when the big guns are on the scene.
Verdict:
The Broncos are underdogs with a weapon that everyone certainly can’t underestimate anymore, Tim Tebow will be watched very tightly on Saturday. However, you can’t doubt the Patriots at home and if you do, then good luck because the offense is so strong, they will give you at least 30 points on the night. Tom Brady over Tim Tebow any day for me.
Obscure Stats - Denver have covered in just 6 of their last 21 away games against clubs with a home win/loss record above 50%, while New England have covered in just 5 of their last 21 games as a favourite of at least 10 points.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans
Sunday - 01:00PM ET
Second seeded Baltimore Ravens are more than prepared than ever to make their assault on the playoffs and head for the Superbowl. They are dominant at home and hosting the Houston Texans on Sunday is certainly an advantage for them. If you just checked the stats then the Ravens are more convincing at home with 10 consecutive won at the M&T Bank Stadium and also beating the Texans 29-14 in Week 6. Guess what? Prior to the win over the Texans, the Ravens had a bye the week before and going into this game, well, all I have to say is, de ja vu. Quarterback Joe Flacco looks to be up to the task with their strength on defense in stopping the run. Their defense run is ranked 2nd in the regular season and to know that the Texans can only run then doesn’t this game look a bit safer now? However it will be QB Joe Flacco that will steal the show for sure.
Great performance from the Texans after beating the Cincinnati Bengals 31-10 at home, knowing that they have struggled with injured key players. They had QBs Matt Schaub and back-up Matt Leinart out so once again Yates will be the one to do the throwing. He and wide receiver, Andre Johnson, will have to combine at bit more than usual and the Ravens are expecting the Texans to run more than passing. Aware that their strength is the running game, Arian Foster will be need to step up his game and really bring his best in order to get pat the Raven's defense. However, the Texans defense isn’t that bad either, they did somehow kept the Bengals on a low 10 points and in their road games in the regular season, they are 5-3 and of course, one of them was suffered by the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.
Verdict:
There is more hunger in the Ravens and plus, the Texans don’t have much to fall back on if their running game doesn’t show up. This could either turn ugly or a bit of a tight affair. Nevertheless, the Ravens are strong enough at home to dismiss the Texans.
Obscure Stats - Houston games have gone Over in 27 of their last 36 games against clubs with a win/loss record above 50%, while the Ravens games have gone Under in 16 of their last 21 home games against clubs with an away win/loss record above 50%.
