Mark Sanchez

The New York Jets will take to the field on Sunday with Mark Sanchez in search for their second win as the Jacksonville Jaguars visit. QB Michael Vick will return to his former home as he leads the Eagles into Atlanta to fight the Falcons, while Moneday night will see the Giants hosts the St. Louis Rams.

New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The New York Jets are off to a good start to the season with a 27-24 win over a mistake-prone Dallas Cowboys in their season opener last weekend. Their starting quarterback Mark Sanchez threw two touchdowns but also ended up with a concussion. He should be ready however to lead the Jets offense against the Jags. Besides Plaxico Burress getting a count of 1 for TDs, LaDainian Tomlinson is also showing good form receiving 73 yards on catches, but it is the Jet’s defense that stole the show by coming up with key moments to turn the tides in their favor. All in all however, the defense needs more work and they will get their chance this Sunday. This must be a wake up call for Rex Ryan and surely this will be exercised when they take to the field at the MetLife stadium. CB Darrelle Ravis will step up once again for the home side.

The Jaguars won their first game and that was close one, a 16-14 home win over the Tennessee Titans. They will be on a two game road trip taking first the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers the week after. There wasn’t much of a passing attack with Jacksonville Jaguars last week and if this is a repeat of the season opener win, then they might be a little too predictable and find themselves in trouble against a ferocious Jets defense.

Verdict: Jets are a better passing team and defensively they will improve, home win.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Atlanta Falcons have started out poorly with a 30-12 road defeat to the Chicago Bears last weekend. This week they return home to the Georgia Dome, and will see a former player that might give them another tormenting experience. The home team will be without DT Babineaux who will be a void difficult to replace. It’s not that pressure is on QB Matt Ryan, but it will be playing on his mind as he is the leader on an offense that was poor last week and needs to set thing straight quickly.

Released back in 2007 and ending up in the slammers, Michael Vick will have something to prove when he takes to the field to register another win in the regular season. If this one is not personal then I don’t know what will it be for Vick, he will need to ask a bit more from Jeremy Maclin as the 31-13 win over the Rams didn’t see much of the duo combining. Although fear not, the rushing attack racked up 236 yards last week against the Rams with running back LeSean McCoy gaining 122 yards on the ground. This is one team that has it all at the moment.

Verdict: Vick wants this really badly and Falcons will do everything to stop that, but I don’t think can.

New York Giants vs. St. Louis Rams

Going into this Monday Night Football matchup, both teams started out with a defeat in their season opener and the home team is more pressured to do well in Week 2. The Giants 28-14 road defeat to the Washington Redskins saw quarterback failing to throw a TD pass in nine road games. He might be without star receiver Hakeem Nicks on Monday as he is suffering a knee injury. Nicks would be vital for the passing game as he caught seven balls for 12 yards, vital, yes for the Giants. Question mark over right end Travis Beckum is also rated doubtful, along with defensive players Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora.

If we were to compare injuries however, then the Rams have got it bad. They are without five key defensive players, notoriously Terrell Thomas and Jonathan Fogg. Although, more injuries have followed for Coach Spagnuolo as Steven Jackson, Danny Amendola, Ron Bartell, Bradley Fletcher and offensive tackle Jason Smith are each banged up. The chances of a victory look slim for the former defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, Spagnuolo and also defensive tackle Fred Robbins home coming with so many injuries to be concerned about.

Verdict: Injury ridden teams but Rams looks more down and out, Giants to take this one.
