The Philadelphia Eagles QB, Michael Vick, could be on the verge of taking his team on a run to Superbowl XLVI. The winner of the NFC will take on the AFC champion to battle for the most prestigous trophy known in American football. Could this be the beginning of the Vick era?
NFL Preview : The NFC
With the start of the NFL regular season on the 8th of September, here are the teams from the National Football Conference that you should watch out for. These are our picks to make the playoffs in 2011/2012.
Philadelphia Eagles
Looking to top the NFC East and claim the East division crown, the Philadelphia Eagles are hotter than ever and expectations are high for the Michael Vick lead team to go all the way to the Superbowl XLVI. How will they get there? It's all about how Coach Andy Reid will compliment the talents of Vick. In the passing game, WRs DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin will stretch the field while TE Brent Celek will find plenty of open field down the middle. In the rushing department, RB LeSean McCoy will have his opportunities while Vick will frighten every opposition coach, player and fan with his ability to take the ball all the way to the endzone from seemingly any position. Defensively there has been improvements in the pass defense with Asomugha and Jason Babin for man cover while the rush defense is strengthened with one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL, Jim Wahhburn in control. He will do the job for the Eagles. Pre-season favorites, hot favorites in the regular season and surely many will have them somewhere in the post-season. (First game vs. Atanta Falcons)
Green Bay Packers
The Packers are back with a healthy squad and the reigning Super Bowl champs are hungry for a repeat of their successful 2010/2011 campaign. By far the best team in the NFC North and once again, it will be the QB Aaron Rodgers show. They are the most well-rounded team and if they are able to keep Rodgers in good situations all throughout the season, then a repeat is likely. Defensively, the Packers will be more equipped this season by learning from their mistakes from last season, they’ve got Woodson, Tramon Williams and Sam Shields to deploy in man coverage on pass defense. And it will be their attack that compensate for any weakness in their defence. The Packers are set to be on their way to yet another Superbowl appearance. (First game vs. New Orleans Saints)
New Orleans Saints
The leading pack of the NFC South and the New Orleans Saints know what it takes to win a superbowl, as long as they have Drew Brees as their quarterback. Brees could well be a candidate for the MVP this season, and if he can replicate his form of 2009, the Saints could claim another championship. They have aggressively recruited tackles Aubrayo Franklin and Shaun Rogers, with rookie Cameron Jordan joining the line up. Offensively, the Saints are well prepared, so it will be the question whether defensively they are able to contain the oppositions rush and pass game. DT Sedrick Ellis and Vilma will be the ones to stop the rushing while the passing defence can only improve from last year’s poor effort. (First game vs. Green Bay Packers)
St. Louis Rams
This team will rise to the occasion and the Rams will arrive with a bang after poor recent seasons. They are favourites to top the NFC West at the end of the regular season. The Rams have quarterback Sam Bradford, a rookie QB who went 7-9 last season, and will be complimented with WR Mike Sims-Walker and RB Steven Jackson, to improve their passing and rushing offensive play. Defensively the Rams have added safety Quintin Mikell, while the old guard Spagnuolo D will do the job. This team is an exciting prospect and if they have form riding on their side, they're definitely going to make an impact in the NFC in 2011. (First game vs. Philadelphia Eagles)
Wild Cards - Atlanta Falcons
Likely to play second fiddle to the New Orleans Saints and finish second in the NFC South. They have QB Matt Ryan who may struggle to win yet another 13 games this season, but should do enough to get through to the playoffs. The big QB will be helped by top receiver Roddy White and Hall of famer, tight end Tony Gonzalez. The Falcons will be one of the more explosive offenses this season and will have one of the leagues most prolific passing attacks. (First game vs. Chicago Bears)
New York Giants
Never count these boys out, they were amongst the top 10 in offense and defense last season. The New York Giants still have Eli Manning as their quarterback and of course, the return of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw will aid their running game. Protecting their quarterback will be the question mark but defensively, the Giants have got many weapons to shut down opposition assaults. DE Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora and Jason Pierre Paul are all ready to cause havok for many opposing offensive lines this season, which should see the Giants do enough to make the playoffs as a wildcard. (First game vs. Washington Redskins)
