Matt Forte

Running back Matt Forte needs to come up with some running plan to get pass the Eagles defence this coming Monday Night. On Sunday, the Chargers will take on the Packers while the Giants take on the New England Patriots at the Gilette Stadium.

San Diego Chargers vs. Green Bay Packers

Reality check for the Chargers as they came off the three game road trip with two defeats and one win. It was all well in check before the bye week they received in Week 6. Suddenly a back to back defeat in Week 7 and 8 have left San Diego heading for the think tank. A defeat to the New York Jets 27-12 and last weekend’s OT defeat to Kansas City Chiefs have knocked them to back to earth as they were expecting to make good runs in the regular season. Quarterbacks Phillip Rivers hasn’t got the offense going. Turnovers were seen and if they want to get something this weekend, then they will have to get all of their offensive weapons - Tolbert, Brinkley and Mathews back from injuries because that is the only thing that the Chargers got going.

The Packers have it all, week after week, they come out and win games. It is as simple as that. And if that is not enough then they should be hungry in Week 9 due to their bye week last weekend. So all rested and raring to go, this is a powerful offensive team that draws on big plays with QB Aaron Rogers, who will put up around 300 yards on the day for sure, and wide receiver Greg Jennings to top things off. So that is another one to keep an eye on Sunday when the Packers travel to the West coast. For the Packers, continuing the winning streak is important and surely they won’t start losing here, if so, then blaming it on the bye week.

Verdict: A break should stop the champions in getting their eighth straight win. Packers to take it.

Obscure stat - San Diego are 22-7-3 against the line when underdogs in their last 32 games while Green Bay are 35-14-2 following a game in which they gave up over 350 yards to their opponents.

New England Patriots vs. New York Giants

The Gillette Stadium will host a rivalry that will see whether the Patriots can to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 25-17. The defense hasn’t been up to scratch and giving away 400 yards does give some headaches to the defensive coaches. Even with three straight wins prior to the defeat, they had warning signs but surely they need to get something going this Sunday against the Giants. Superstar QB Tom Brady will have to raise himself out of the near miss in Pittsburgh. He has a team that can defend, one of the best teams in the redzone and with that comfort, the offense needs to pull their weigh and bring back Rob Gronkowski in the zone.

The Giants have some difficulties with their running plays but it didn’t seem to show in their 20-17 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 8. More improvement will be coming their way and much is needed for the tie against the Patriots. If that won’t win them games then Quarterback Eli Manning can finish the job. Only Aaron Rodgers has done better than Manning this season so it shows that there is still some magic from him. It will be a mystery to many to see what Giant team will show up on Sunday. They are 5-2 and if they turn up like they did against the Redskins in Week 1 and Week 5 against the Seattle, then they are in serious trouble. Mind you, they have made the necessary adjustment to adapt to their strength but it will be tough night with some hope in winning this one.

Verdict: Giants will be physical and Manning could shine but Patriots have Tom Brady, home win and it will be a tight affair.

Obscure stat - The Giants are just 16-36-2 against the line in their last 54 games played in November while New England are 25-9-1 against the line following a loss.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Chicago Bears

Philly loves football and the love of the game might be back for the Eagles. There were two straight wins with a bye week in-between, with Eagles beating the Dallas Cowboys comfortably with a 34-7 score line. After four straight defeats, the Eagles have managed to turn things around and maybe live up to the bill of a Superbowl team? Ok, there is a fair bit of the season to go at the moment but never the less, the home game against the Bears could tell us more about this team. For the Eagles to find their third straight win, they must turn to running back LeSean McCoy to get those yards. He has scored in all of the seven games and he will play a vital part of the team beside QB Michael Vick.

Monday Night football will see the Chicago Bears return to action at Lincoln Financial Field after a bye week in Week 8. They will travel to Philadelphia which is not as far to travel as London a fortnight ago, but at least it was all worth it with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bears with QB Jay Cutler are making progress while Matt Forte has shown great signs of a prospective future ahead of him. It’s no secret that Forte is currently the star of the team. He can run, he can catch and TDs are always up his alley in every game he plays. If they want to come away from the Lincoln Financial Field with a win, then Forte will have to be successful with his run on Monday night.

Verdict: Both looking for the 3rd win and odds are on the Eagles to do it.

Obscure stat - Chicago are just 4-11-1 against the line in their last 16 away games as underdogs while the underdog has covered the line in the last 9 meetings between the two teams.
