MVP Derrick Rose will find himself in great company with many NBA superstars going for the top prize of the NBA trophy. Chicago Bulls might not have Michael Jordan anymore but Rose can help the Chicago fans remind them of the glorious days. Miami Heat, Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics are all gunning to take on the Bulls.
Chicago Bulls vs. Indiana Pacers
Flashback, are we going to see the Chicago team that was lead once by Micheal Jordan joined by Scottie Pippen and the flamboyant Dennis Rodman on to the courts of United Center when the playoff 2011 officially kicks off on Saturday. No, you aren’t dreaming, this is the first time Chicago Bulls finishing top seed in the East since the Jordan-era of 1998. This youthful Chicago team is lead by Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng and they have done well in the regular season with a 36-6 at home record. This is very much a telling story for Chicago as they have the home advantage in the playoff and what more, 2-1 against the Indiana Pacers this season. Head Coach Tom Thibodeau has given the Bulls defense some sturdy reputation and with that in mind it is somewhat different Bulls team than the one we know it.
Indiana Pacers will be happy to see themselves in the playoffs after five year absences of not being involved in the post season. The Pacers went through a turbulent season with former head coach Jim O
Brian getting the sack and replaced by current Interim Head Coach Frank Vogel, in his first appearance in the playoffs, which lead to a 8th place in the Eastern Conference . Danny Granger and Tyler hansbrough will be the key players but not enough to secure that berth to the next round.
MVP Derrick Rose to run riot and series ending with a 4-1 win.
Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers
A lot is expected of the Miami Heat this season and to finish second seeded might come to as a surprise as Chicago Bull took the first. Having home court advantage, the Heat have the firepower and the offence to back up their claim to get a NBA final in place in the post season. In his third playoff appearance, Head Coach Erik Spoelstra has one of best players in the NBA, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade with Chris Bosh to compliment the starting lineup strength. The Miami Heat are just the team that can spice up the playoffs, regardless who their opponents are.
The 76ers are capable in giving the Heat some tough time so if the Heat thinks this is an easy win, then the 76ers will be rolling over that easily. It is somewhat a hit or miss with the 76ers, this team is all about teamwork, if they gel nicely then they can muster up a 10 point average every man that get time on the court. So if they step up, home and away then the Philadelphia 76ers are in it for a chance. Jrue Holiday, Elton Brand, Jodie Meeks, Louis Williams, Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young will have to bring their top game already in the first round but it will be rewarding.
The Miami heat trio should be able to overpower the 76ers in five games.
Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks
Everyone has been asking what on earth happened to the Boston Celtics after the All-Star weekend and that is simply the loss of Kendrick Perkins and also the loss confidence that made them slip to third seeded in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics still have the players that brought them into the NBA Playoff finals two consecutive seasons with Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo that could draw out the experience to help them through a tough encounter with New York Knicks. Speaking of experience, three times MVP and also four times winner of the NBA championship title, Center Shaquille O’Neal is one of the kind when it comes to these big stages.
The Knicks did the opposite of the Celtics, they went out and trade a few players to strengthen their squad and boy, they strengthen their squad. They brought in Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups which seriously help their chances in the playoffs. Offensively the Knicks have it all and maybe just what it takes to knock the Celtics out too, but when it comes to defending then that a total different story. Defensive is not Head Coach D’Antoni main concern but against the solid Boston heavy D, he might need to find a way to get his team up in the defensive awareness department.
Tough outcome, Boston have the experience, New York Knicks have the hunger, the one that wants it the most will get it and experience usually wins when it’s a seven game series. Boston to do it 7.
Orlando Magic vs. Atlanta Hawks
Question marks in the air as the Orlando Magic go into the playoff taking on Atlanta Hawks with the home court advantage. Although we have seen this match up before and last season, in the second round, Magic were on top of things but this year, the difference between two teams are tighter and it can go either way.
Magic, again, are heavily relying on big man Dwight Howard and he has proven in the past that he is the man that can win series. However this is a team game and with a few reshuffling of the staff, Heo Turkoglu and Gilbert Arenas will be key to their plays if they want to advance further in the playoffs. If Howard is to be pressure in doing more defending then offensively play then players like Jameer Nelson and Jason Richardson will need to show their quality and they should under Head Coach Stan Van Gundy tutelage.
The Hawks have been impressive and players like Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford, Marvin Williams, Jamal Crawford and Kirk Hinrich have really given some hope for their Atlanta fans. They might not be world beaters or individual super stars but certainly as a team, they are hard to beat. Their special weapon is Josh Smith who is powerful in his own rights, then you have Joe Johnson that can give you over 30 points on a good day and Kirk Hinrich contributing form time to time. Solid team with solid players on the rise.
Surprising bunch to make a name for themselves, but if Gibert Arenas does his magic, then Orlando should get the upper hand. Magic to do in seven.
