Winner of the NBA Championship 2010/2011, the Dallas Mavericks will defend their championship in this years abnormal 66 game season after unlocking the lock out dispute. So from the board room, we now head to the locker room in preparation for the NBA start with a preview.
NBA Championship 2011/12
Finally basketball in America is set to resume after a lockout for over two months in the dispute over pay. The NBA season is cut short from a 82 games per season to 66 games, meaning that teams are going to meet only three times per season rather than the four. Never the less, BettingExpert will be there when it all kicks off, 26th of December and also provide the playoff finals when spring comes along. Until then, enjoy the preview of the selection of NBA teams that are looking to get into the playoffs.
Bringing it Home:
Dallas Mavericks - (2010/11: Winner)
The defending champion is up there simply because they were outstanding last season with Dirk Nowitzki winning the Mavs their first franchise NBA Championship. A repeat of this will definitely cement their domination in the NBA and with the owner Mark Cuban taking out his cheque book to strengthen the team with Lamar Odom and Vince Carter, the outlook for another championship run is a positive one. They will meet the Miami Heat at home on the 26th of December.
Miami Heat – (2010/11 - Playoff finalist)
This is arguably one of the strongest teams in the NBA with a lineup of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on their roster. They're set to improve again this season as another year together will only enhance their cohesion. They could well go that step further in 2011/2012, looking to redeem themselves after their collapse against the Mavericks in the Finals last season. It’s all about delivering and surely Miami needs that confidence to be able to win another championship to add to the one they claimed in 2006. The Heat will travel to Dallas to take on the Mavericks on opening day.
Los Angeles Lakers – (Result 2010/11 – Knockout Conference Semifinals)
It wasn’t the goodbye that everybody had hoped for as Phil Jackson went into retirement when the Lakers were knocked out in the Conference Semifinals with a 4-0 blowout by the Dallas Mavericks. The team’s game still revolves around Kobe Bryant and no doubt that he will be once again seen as the key in winning the title. The Lakers will have to do without Lamar Odom and Shannon Brown, this all means they are scrambling to find someone who can step in before the season start where they will take on the Chicago Bulls at the Staples Center on Boxing day.
Chicago Bulls (Result 2011/12 – Knockout Conference Final)
The Bulls era is beginning to shape up and if we can take anything from the previous season, it's that something exciting is really developing in Chicago. Many looked at Derrick Rose to shine and yes, he did have the x-factor, his team was still a bit too raw, offensively, but one year on, one year wiser. They’ve kept the same team and added Richard Hamilton to their roster and rookie Jimmy Butler. All of this should contribute to a season that will show some promising result and an appearance in the Finals could be on the verge this time around. The Bulls are to travel to Los Angeles to take on the rivals, Lakers on first day of play in the NBA.
Potential Favourites:
Boston Celtics:
One of the powerhouses in the NBA and there are a few issues that they need to solve before they earn the favourite title. They are an aging team and their roster depth could be problematic as the tough schedule will hit them in the post-season, like last season. They start their campaign at New York Knicks.
New York Knicks:
A team that is on the rise and with Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire on the roster list, anything can happen for the Knicks. They also acquired Tyson Chandler to boost the defensive side and that could aid their chances in the playoffs.
Oklahoma City Thunder:
If you have Kevin Durant on your team then you will always be one of the potential playoff contending teams. The Thunder also have Russell WestBrook and also Kendrick Perkins to aid Durant, however it is still the question whether Westbrook and Durant can work together on the court. This Thunder team is one of the youngest teams in the league and surely one to watch this season. They are home to Orlando Magic on the first day of play.
