Kobe Bryant will be hard to stop when the Mavs defence comes to Staples Center on Thursday evening.
New York Knicks vs. New Jersey Nets
It was about time New York Knicks snapped out of the six straight defeats before facing the Orlando Magic last Monday. That game saw the Knicks pulling through for each other when key player Carmelo Anthony claimed it was a must win game, they got the must win part down by downing the Magic 113-106 OT. The buzz must be a positive one going into the game against the Nets at the Madison Square Garden on Wednesday evening, Melo scored 39 points, highest since he arrived at the Knicks, and also Amare Stoudemire helping out in order to secure a berth to the playoff.
The Nets won’t be making much out of their season after their overall record looking grim as things are rapping up soon. They will first travel to Houston to take on the Rockets on Tuesday evening before making their way to New York on Wednesday. The Nets have already suffered six defeats in seven games with only Brook Lopez and Anthony Morrow pulling their weigh on the team. Deron Williams is doubtful to play against the Knicks.
The Knicks are looking for win and only winning counts as they are searching for a playoff place since 2004. The New York Knicks knows what is at stake and playing the Nets might just come as a good time for them to build upon their bouncing back feeling. The Knicks are facing one of the worst teams of the East and this could be a game where the home teams will be celebrating when the buzzer goes.
San Antonio Spurs vs. Boston Celtics
A bit unusually to see Spurs losing four games in a row and that hasn’t happened this season until now. Their lost to away to Portland Trailblazers, Denver Nuggets and Memphis Grizzlers while also losing at home to Portland again but this time at home with 100-92. What’s going on? Well, many will say they already have the playoff berth in place and that might just put the damper to the engine, but surely the injuries have hamper the team’s good form. They have already Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Antonio McDyess all out and facing Celtics at home will be a tough one.
Another team that has booked their spot in the playoff, Boston Celtics will play their third of the four game road trip against Spurs on Thursday evening. They have been inconsistent both home and away and also recently lost their place for a first seed in the playoff. They are fumbling and stumbling and also losing seven of their last 12 games, Celtic could plummet further to a third seed as the Miami Heat are hot after their tail. The team is still intact with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo but they can turn things around when the playoff comes around.
Two teams on the slump and both don’t look likely to take much of each other when it comes to further injuries. Spurs is suffering from a massive lose of their key players while Celtics just haven’t got their game going. It does look like Celtics have the advantage, as least with the starting five but when it comes to confidence, Celtics must be in their all time low and not the best time either to incur it.
LA Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks
Ever since the All stars weekend, things have really turned up the pace within the Lakers team and what a match up at the Staples Center it will be. Lakers hasn’t stop winning since Feb 22 with only one faltering on the road against Miami Heat, apart from that it was 15 victories out of 16 games, they will be gunning for their 8th consecutive win against the Mavericks. Not surprisingly, Kobe Bryant has been the center of all the positive result but of course with the help of Andrew Bynum and also Pau Gasol.
The Mavericks hasn’t been that impressive unlike their host, but they are still in a good run with four wins in a row, their latest win came against Phoenix Suns on the road with a 91-83. The Mavs are on a six game road trip and playing Lakers will be their fourth as they face the Clippers on Wednesday before going onto the same court the following day against the Lakers.
For some reason, Dallas Mavericks are not playing to their full potential and maybe rightly so they don’t have to as the playoff nears. Dirk Nowitzki and his team is 26-10 on the road trip, also depending against Clippers, so they are a strong team afterall but are they strong enough to beat Lakers after playing the Clippers. Can’t see that happening playing two games in two days and as the playoffs nears, injuries will be the worry and also Lakers beating the Mavs in their most recently head to head.
