De-ja-vu on Saturday night? Well, Juan Manuel Marquez knows how it taste to go down against Manny Pacquiao so expect him to go down once again. Both fighters are ready to go at it for the third time but the pound for pound champion is ready to live up to his bill of the Mexicutioner.
Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez
MGM Grand, Las Vegas
Saturday night will see the eight divison champion and most notorious title of having number one pound for pound best boxing fighter, Manny Pacquiao take on a familiar old foe, Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez. This will be the second time in history that fought in MGM Grand, Las Vegas but third meeting between the two. Also nickname as the Mexicutioner, Pacquiao drew in their first ever fight in MGM seven years ago retaining the Featherweight title but in their second meeting, the fighting pride of the Philippines took the honors on points in 2008, retain the Ring and his Super Featherweight titles. Scroll forward to 2011, this time pay-per-view and rich, Manny Pacquiao is meeting a old foe that is seeking revenge.
It does sound like a revenge fight for Marquez but on the contrary, it is all for Manny Pacquiao to prove one thing that he longed for, knocking out Marquez which he wasn’t able to, but still drew one and won the other. The bitter taste that left Pacquiao came after the fight where Marquez accused that he was the rightful winner even though he lost. But for those who didn’t see the fights, Marquez went down on both occasions, three times in round one, first match while second match, once in the third round, but Marquez came back arguably within a shout to claim victory.
Three years down the line from their last fight, it is Manny Pacquiao who has gone from strengthen to strengthen and accumulating titles after title while his opponent hasn’t very much put his name amongst the midst of Manny Pacquiao caliber. At age 38, Juan Manuel Marquez, this might be his payday and finishing off what he claims that he could have been rather what he is today. There is definitely more to lose, title wise, for Pac-man while Juan Manuel Marquez could stand a chance to finish his career on a high.
The Filipino might have titles to lose but on a serious note, he must be looking forward to finish off Juan Manuel Marquez once and for all, pride is definitely on the stake and coach Freddie Roach has been vocal on the determination and spirit that the Pac-man has shown during sparring. A huge tip from his corner man is saying that a knockout is needed to finish off this match and no doubt that Pacquiao won’t make the same mistake in his previous matches. The speed of the little Filpino will be an advantage and that could be suggested that a TKO is the only way out.
Verdict:
As years goes by, it is Pacquiao that looks more and more of the better man between the two. A draw, seven years ago, a win, four years later and what will happen in 2001, a knockout, very likely. Juan Manuel Marquez fought their second match in felterweight but on Sunday, the Mexican has to go two weight division up to fight at lightweight. Having said that, Juan Manuel Marquez has seen prepared with his bulk physic and looks good to take on anyone. As for the Pac-man, another pay day until the big match against Mayweather, if ever and with two personal vendetta out there to settle, first Juan Manuel Marquez then Mayweather, no wonder Pacquiao is heavily favourites to win in this tight affairs.
Bet on: Manny Pacquiao to finish off Juan Manuel Marquez in the first four rounds with a TKO.
