Happy scenes from last season from the Bundesliga champions, Dortmund, will try to emulate once again as the season starts in Germany. The Bundesliga season will start with the champions hosting Hamburg on Friday while on Sunday title contender, Bayern will host Borussia Mochengladbach.
Dortmund vs. Hamburger SV
The reigning champions, Dortmund, will start the new Bundesliga season 2011/2012 off with an evening home game on Friday against Hamburg. They start off the campaign surely with an aim to continue their phenomenon form from last season. Coach Jurgen Klopp will have to mastermind this season without his key player Turkish Nuri Sahlin who has moved to Real Madrid in the summer and unfortunately he has also not brought in a player that direct replaces this gifted player. Having said that, there are plenty in the squad that can raise their bar to take over Sahlin, the raw talents of Mario Gotze could be the answer to Klopp’s tactical plans but also newly acquired Croatian midfielder Ivan Perisic could fill in the hole. Never the less, the return of Japenese Shinji Kagawa from injury will sure give off positive outlook for this season while Lucas Barrios is out for at least a month sustained during Copa America.
Hamburger SV have seen a lot of changes over the summer, by just naming the players that has left the club, Rost, Benjamin, Trochowski, Ze Roberto, Nistelrooy and Mathjsen might seen as a weaken team. However, Coach Michael Oenning’s new squad with full of promising talents by raiding the Chelsea B-Squad players like Michael Mancienne, Jacopo Sala, Gokhan Tore and Jeffrey Bruma, while on loan players from Lille, David Rozehnal, San Paulo, Alex Silva and Marcus Berg from PSV Eindhoven shows the intentions of getting the youth into the aging squad, that or there is no money. Hamburg started the season off with a friendly 2-1 home defeat to Valencia. Youngster Hanno Behrens got the goal for the Hamburg team who was supplemented with both Mladen Petric and Elijero Elia, surely key players this season for them.
The winning streak for Dortmund at home have been strectch all the way from the first Matchday of season 2010/11, also amazingly Dortmund have not lost to Hamburg in last three home games and also not conceding to them either. The statistics is with the home side and surely the firepower is still fresh from last season so not doubt that Dortmund will continue their winning run against a several change of staff in the Hamburg team.
Prediction - Dortmund by a mile
FC Koln vs. Wolfsburg
The fans and players will be looking at this new season as a breath of fresh air as they acquired a new coach and players that might give the positive outlook for the months to come. The successful former FC Copenhagen trainer, norwiegan Stale Stalebakken, who guided the Danish to several Danish titles and also into the Champions League knockout stages, will take helm at Cologne with already a few more new arrivals to assist his maiden quest in the Bundesliga. He has supplemented mostly players on loan from Gardawski, Vunguidica, Ishiaku, Thomas Kessler while Sascha Riether and Odise Roshi will be permanent staffs. FC Koln ended their friendly tour with a 7-0 win over Vorgebirge Select last Tuesday where Kevin Mckenna, Mark Uth and Jonas Hector.
Things are going to change for Wolfsburg under Felix Magath, well that’s what everybody is hoping for but they sustained a 3-2 away defeat to RB Leipzeig dumping them out of the DFB Pokal and could also see a bit of a Schalke 04 complex of last season. The positives that can be taken out from the game is that both Mandzukic and Srdjan Lakic were both on target so nothing wrong with the offensive, defensively there is a lot in question over whether they will be able to resist a Bundesliga on-slaughter offense. This will be seen on Saturday when they travel to Cologne to flex their muscle.
Prediction - Draw game looks fair
Bayern Munchen vs. Borussia Mochengladbach
The post Van Gaal era starts here with Bayern Munchen taking on Borussia Mochengladbach at the Allianz Arena on Sunday. On paper, it looks straight forward with the favourite being the home side and as it hangs over the Bayern player’s shoulder, it will be yet another season where the pressure is on. By the looks of the newly acquired players, the goal keeper position will be filled by former Schalke 04 and German international M. Neuer which is a sure boost to the team’s defensive duties with such experience on the team. Talking about experience, one must be able to predict whether Bayern will have both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery ready for the season. Both suffered a ankle join capsule damage during the pre-season and it will be surprising to even see them on the bench on Sunday. Coach Jupp Heynches should be able to call upon the same eleven that beat 2. Bundesliga Eintract Braunschweig 3-0 in the DFB Pokal.
Surviving the scare last season, Borussia Mochengladbach will not want yet another year to fight with relegation. The team needed a bit of change and coach Lucien Favre did just that to change a few staff. They have acquired defender Swedish Oscar Wendt from FC Copenhagen while supplemented with both forward Matthew Leckie, Lukas Rupp and Matthais Zimmermann. Borussia Mochengladbach on paper looks like an exciting team and the question is whether Favre can get the team to gel before half the season is gone. Their aim to get somewhere mid-tables of the Bundesliga and with hard work, also luck, the pain of last season could be erased.
Pressure is on Bayern to perform and Jupp Heynches is no strangers to winning games. He did it when he was with Leverkusen and this time around, he has better resources and maybe even more raw talents to push his managerial effect into play. Bayern will have to show more determination and more fight in order to challenge Dortmund for the Bundesliga title.
Prediction - Bayern to take all 3 points
