Bundesliga: FC Bayern München - Bayer 04 Leverkusen

By Joachim, BettingExpert.com | Edited

Matchday 30 sees Bayern and Leverkusen clash in Munich on Sunday evening, and it will be a game that decides about Leverkusen's bid to win the championship as it will decide whether or not Bayern still have a chance to capture the third place in the Bundesliga, which would mean they could at least play in the Champions League qualifiers next season. Bayern absolutely has to win this game, which gives this match its ultimate appeal. For Leverkusen it is a chance to put big pressure on Borussia Dortmund, who will play just after this game has ended.

FC Bayern München - Bayer 04 Leverkusen
One of the big winners of the season: Arturo Vidal

It's naked fear that has Bayern Munich and its supporters firmly in its grip, just after the disappointing 1-1 against Nuremberg head coach Louis van Gaal was sacked and will be replaced by his assistant coach Andries Jonker for the remainder of the season. How serious Jonker is about his mission could be seen right away, he proceeded to replace young goalkeeper Kraft with Jörg Butt. The appointment of Kraft as the keeper in the second leg of the season is widely seen as the crucial mistake van Gaal made that ultimately cost him his job - the 1-1 in Nuremberg also was largely Kraft's fault after an grotesque error. Jonker might have his first match as a head coach imagined to be an easier job, Robben and Badstuber are suspended, and Schweinsteiger and Ribéry are doubtful due to injury worries. If these two can't play Jonker needs a very good plan B, he might even resort to start with two strikers - Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose.

Jupp Heynckes is in a tough spot, on the one hand he wants to catch up to Borussia Dortmund to make a final bid for the title, on the other hand he can hardly want to deny Bayern Munich playing in the Champions League next season, seeing how he will take over there as the head coach in July. There will be a few changes in the starting line-up for Bayer Leverkusen compared to the starting eleven against St. Pauli last Sunday: René Adler, Gonzalo Castro, Renato Augusto and Eren Derdiyok will all start this time out, and will replace Fabian Giefer, Hanno Balitsch, Tranquillo Barnetta and Stefan Kießling.

Probable line-ups:

FC Bayern München:

Butt - Lahm, Breno, Luiz Gustavo, Contento - Tymoshchuk, Schweinsteiger (Kroos) - Altintop, Müller, Ribéry - Gomez

Missing:

Badstuber, Robben, van Buyten, Olic

Bayer 04 Leverkusen:

Adler - Castro, Schwaab, Reinartz, Kadlec - Vidal, Rolfes - Sam, Ballack, Renato Augusto - Derdiyok

Missing:

Friedrich

Verdict:

FC Bayern München - Bayer 04 Leverkusen
So far there have been 63 matches between the two teams in Bundesliga history, and Bayern are clearly in the lead. So far Bayern has won 37 of those matches, while Leverkusen only managed 13 victories. Bayern are especially strong at home when they play Bayer Leverkusen, out of 31 matches Bayern only lost two, while winning 23. On paper Bayern are the favorites, but given the injury worries of Bayern it is quite imaginable that Leverkusen could win this game. This match is yet another perfect candidate for a draw - and again it is a result that will help neither team.
