Borussia Dortmund - Eintracht Frankfurt

By Joachim, BettingExpert.com | Edited

34th and last matchday in the Bundesliga, and Frankfurt have to fight for survival at Germany's new crowned champion Borussia Dortmund. Frankfurt sit in second last place and absolutely have to win in order to still have a shot to avoid relegation.

Borussia Dortmund - Eintracht Frankfurt
The celebrations in Dortmund have already begun.

The pictures after Frankfurt's last loss against Cologne were a scary sight, around 200 angry spectators made their way onto the pitch, but could then be contained by police. A look at the current situation of the club reveals that there's plenty of reasons for Frankfurt supporters to be upset. After actually having beaten Dortmund in the first leg of the season Eintracht Frankfurt was sitting comfortably in 7th place, just 3 points short of an Europa League qualification spot – what followed was an almost unparalleled downward spiral, that saw them only take eight points in the second leg of the season and subsequently sack their coach – ironically directly after the only victory of 2011.

Some of the problems already seemed obvious at the end of last season, for example the lack of a dangerous striker besides Theofanis Gekas, who scored more than half of all the 30 goals of the club this season. Frankfurt also failed to sign a suitable substitute for the injured Chris in central defense during the winter transfer period, which would cost them dearly later. But despite of all the doom there is still a chance for Frankfurt to avoid relegation, but even a draw is very likely not enough – Frankfurt have to win in Dortmund of all places. There will probably two changes in the starting line-up, Sebastian Rode and Ioannis Amanatidis will replace Julian Dudda and Marcel Heller.

Obviously Dortmunds main concerns lately were far less worrying – the departure of Nuri Sahin was one worry, dealing with hangovers probably another. Nonetheless Dortmund will do their best to provide their fans with a show for the closing game of the season to contribute to a party in yellow and black that is sure to set off after the match no matter what the score is. Klopp will probably start with his best squad, apart from the injured Nuri Sahin, who already played his last game for the club against Nuremberg two weeks ago.

Probable line-ups:

Borussia Dortmund:

Weidenfeller - Piszczek, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelzer - Bender, da Silva - Götze, Lewandowski, Großkreutz - Barrios

Missing:

Sahin, Owomoyela, Kringe, Kehl

Eintracht Frankfurt:

Fährmann - Jung, Rode, Russ, Köhler - Ochs, Schwegler, Caio, Amanatidis - Fenin, Gekas

Missing:

Chris, Franz, Tzavellas, Bajramovic, Kittel, Clark

Verdict:

So far there have been 77 Bundesliga matches between the two teams, Dortmund won 35 of those and Frankfurt only 27. Especially at home Borussia has traditionally gotten good results against Frankfurt, and there is little reason to believe this time will be any different. One pointer could be the recent loss against Werder Bremen though, were the young squad was clearly slacking. Frankfurt in their current form are far too weak for Dortmund, and will sure play in the Second Bundesliga next season after a devastating loss.
