Bayer 04 Leverkusen - TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

By Joachim, BettingExpert.com | Edited

On matchday 31 it is time for Leverkusen and Hoffenheim to meet in a hopefully exciting match. Hosts Leverkusen were utterly embarassed last time out against Bayern Munich and were at the receiving end of a 1-5 thrashing. Now even place 2 and the direct qualification for next year's Champions League might be in danger - Leverkusen will have to rebound to regain the necessary confidence.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen - TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
The kind of fighting spirit that was sorely lacking against Bayern Munich last time out.

Last Sunday Bayer Leverkusen proved impressively just why they never managed to win the Bundesliga championship title - as was often the case the squad plays great and largely successful football, but it just never seems to be enough for the top spot. It is usually the big games against direct competition that make Leverkusen look bad - "complete failure" really sums it up nicely. In the second leg of the season the important matches against Borussia Dortmund (1-3) and the recent thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich come to mind. Not even Jupp Heynckes, among other things Champions League winner with Real Madrid, was able to instill his winning mentality into the Leverkusen squad, who once again failed miserably in their bid for a title.

Hoffenheim on the other hand seem to drift rather aimlessly through the Bundesliga table, sitting in 9th place with nothing to play for - both international competition and the relegation battle are far away. And no-one in Germany really seems to care about the fate of the club. Yet there was quite a bit of activity behind the scenes, current coach Marco Pezzaiuoli will be replaced by St. Pauli's coaching talent Holger Stanislawski on July 1st. Against Leverkusen there will be two changes in the line-up, Andreas Beck and Gylfi Sigurdsson will start instead of Peniel Mlapa and Tobias Weis.

Probable line-ups:

Bayer 04 Leverkusen:

Adler - Castro, Schwaab, Reinartz, Kadlec - Rolfes, Vidal - Sam, Ballack, Renato Augusto - Kießling

Missing:

None

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim:

Starke - Beck, Compper, Vorsah, Braafheid - Ibertsberger, Rudy - Sigurdsson, Alba - Babel, Ibisevic

Missing:

Salihovic, Jaissle, Vukcevic, Weis, Thomalla

Verdict:

So far there were five matches played between the two teams in Bundesliga history, not once was Hoffenheim able to beat the Leverkusen squad, not even at the best of times. It is very probable that this will stay this way this tim around, Leverkusen will rebound from their devastating loss with a convincing victory, and keep the distance to Bayern Munich and Hannover, who otherwise would both come dangerously close to the second spot of the table.
