Ribery and Robben Bayern

Turning things around, both Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are just the pair that will get the job done at Hamburg this weekend. However, Dortmund is also on the travel as they face Nurnberg on Friday evening. Both are looking to pick up the three points away from home.

FC Nurnberg vs. Dortmund

The home side hasn’t made that start which was hoped for to get themselves out of the relegation battle. However, with still five points above both bottom clubs Augsburg and Freiburg, any points gained will be more than welcome on Friday when they host reigning champions, Dortmund. Much of the talk last weekend came from the incident where Hannover’s Emanuel Pogatetz punched Nurnberg’s Philipp Wollscheid, boith are to provide evidence and also Nurnberg suffered a 1-0 defeat. Funny enough, Nurnberg won their first game in 2012 but they have never won two consecutive home games this season, something to ponder about.

Nothing has changed at the top of the Bundesliga but one thing could happen and that is Dortmund could return to the number 1 spot on Friday if they manage to collect at least a point. However, that also means it could be just on loan for 24 hours until Bayern takes on Hamburg away. It can only be suggested that they are only hot favourites to win their three straight games after disposing Hoffenheim 3-1 at home last weekend. A fortnight ago, it was the Polish duo that stole the limelight but Japanese Shinji Kagawa took center stage with two goals last week, so the question this Friday is who will come up with the double act scoring, my guess will be on Kevin Grosskreutz.

Verdict: Friday night will see Dortmund back on top of the world, well, Germany at least.

Hamburg vs. Bayern Munchen

Once a title contender but now settling for a good run to avoid the relegation battle, Hamburg is looking to step out from the bottom half of the Bundesliga. They seriously bounced back from the whiplash Dortmund gave them at home, a 5-1 loss but last weekend, they took it to the capital and beat Hertha Berlin 2-1. Two goals from Marcell Jansen and Mladen Petric might be just the key to ignite Hamburg’s season and of course at home, they would be more than happy to give Bayern a tough ride to keep their top spot. Their defense is lacking in concentration but surely the confidence and morale are improving. Saturday late afternoon kickoff could throw in a surprise or two.

The league leaders, only just by goal difference, Bayern started the season with a defeat but then followed it up with a win. That was back in August and in 2012 January, a repeat of this has happened. They were thrown off the championship course with a 3-1 away defeat but bounced with a 2-0 home win over Wolfsburg. Strikers Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben were both on target so a recall is likely to happen this weekend. There hasn’t been any reinforcement before the January transfer window closed, so this will be the squad that will be bringing the title back to Bavaria. Bastian Schweinsteiger is slowly regaining his authority in the midfield and that will be crucial for both Robben and Ribery to continue what they do best, attack.

Verdict: Considering that Hamburg were vaporized a fortnight ago with 5 goals, Bayern knows they might need the goals to keep them on top of the Bundesliga. Away win with a big goal difference.
