Bayern Muich Celebrates

A team celebration and more of that this weekend for Bayern as they take on Kaiserslautern at home. It would be the ideal way to jump start their title campaign once again. League leaders Dortmund are also in action as they host Bayer Leverkusen which is billed as the top game this Saturday.

Bayern Munchen vs. Kaiserslautern

Saturday – 14:30 GMT

There are some that think luck comes and goes but the home side need more than luck when they take on Kaiserslautern on Saturday. The winter leader fell at the hurdle and being two points behind the reigning champions, Bayern cannot afford to lose anymore points. They face a team who is third from bottom and a win is a must in the Allianz Arena. The midweek DFB Pokal 2-0 away win over Stuttgart took Bayern into the semifinals but suffered a blow to their midfield as the recently returned Bastian Schweinsteiger will be out with an ankle injury for several weeks. Bayern didn’t seem to miss him a bit on Wednesday but last weekend, a 1-1 away draw against Hamburg requires Olic to salvage a point. Arjen Robben was rested in the midweek while David Alaba looks set to be recalled in the midfield. However the main man might still be both Mario Gomez and Franck RIbery are take center stage.

Things look a bit bleak with Kaiserslautern and the away trip to Munchen will be an extra tough show for them. They only picked up two points out of the possible 9 in the last three games, well, ever since the second half of the season started. The 1-0 defeat at home to FC Cologne last weekend really didn’t help their cause in trying to get out of the relegation battle. The problem might arise from their offensive line as they have had trouble creating chances during games. Life in Bundesliga will rest in the eyes of Florian Dick and Etey Shechter.

Verdict:

Winning is one thing but winning big in these games for Bayern could be vital at the end of the season. These are the games Bayern needs to win and win big, over 3.5 goals.

Obscure Stat - Bayern have gone 24 home matches without a draw. The last time this occured was when Werder Bremen hosted Wolfsburg back in Bundesliga season 2007/2008. Wolfsburg caused the upset that day, winning 1-0.

Dortmund vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Saturday – 14:30 GMT

It wasn’t just Bayern who advanced in the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal. Dortmund make their way into the next stage with a 4-0 win over minnow Holstein Kiel in the midweek. That is four games won since the winter break ended and things are pointing up for Dortmund. They are scoring every game, in fact, averaging three goals per game looks very promising that this weekend will see goals yet again. Dortmund took on an 2-0 away win over Nurnberg and that should send a message out to any teams that will be facing Dortmund. Goal keeper Roman Weidenfaller will return to the lineup after sitting on the bench in the midweek, both Kevin Hrosskreutz and Lucas Barrios started on the bench, but both will be pushing for the start this weekend.

Sitting in the top half of the Bundesliga, Leverkusen might not want to be facing Dortmund when they are in form. The away team could muster a challenge and many teams around them are hoping that this will happen, however the statistic might not agree. Leverkusen have drawn the last two games, against both Werder Bremen away and most recently Stuttgart at home with 2-2. So one thing is for sure, Leverkusen can score goals and with an average of 2 goals per game, in the last three, then you got to set your eyes on Simon Rolfes, Stefan Kiessling and Claudio Pizzarro to create the sensation. The offense seemed to be settling in with Andre Schurrle in charge but defensively things are in dire straits if they want to hold out Dortmund.

Verdict:

This is like watching fire fighting fire and Dortmund has all the firepower in store for this. All seems that this game can find over 2.5 goals so having that on a side bet should not be underestimated. To choose a winner then Dortmund looks likely to exploit the lack of concentration amongst the Leverkusen team.

Obscure Stat - Over the last 6 seasons, Dortmund have gone into a home game on a 4 game winning streak twice. They won both by a combined 6 goals to 1.
