Dortmund will have to do better this time they face Hertha Berlin as defeat was all Dortmund tasted last time the clubs faced each other. Elsewhere, bottom club Augsburg will travel to Leverkusen in hope attaining yet another point again in their struggle against relegation.
Hertha Berlin vs. Dortmund
Fourth from bottom, the German capital club, Hertha Berlin are in for a struggle if they don’t pick up any points soon. They haven’t been able to pick up any points yet in 2012 and taking on the reigning champions of Germany, Dortmund, could mean more disgruntled faces in the Berlin squad. Hertha Berlin has lost four straight games and their heaviest defeat this season came last weekend with a 5-0 away defeat to Stuttgart. It would be a miracle that Hertha is to not concede this weekend.
Simple and easy, Jurgen Klopp will be instructing his men to go out there and win yet again, making it their fifth straight win in the Bundesliga. Their narrow 1-0 home win over Leverkusen last weekend made sure that Dortmund retains the number one spot in the Bundesliga and thanks to Shinji Kagawa game winner. They will have a bit more to do as they face Hertha Berlin as the capital club were one of the three teams that has beaten Dortmund this season. Their 1-2 home defeat shed memories of the leaky defence and lack of concentration amongst the team, not to mention the clinical finishing was the missing link. This time around, Dortmund should have enough firepower to make amends and if they don’t then Lucas Barrios should be knocking on the door if the starting eleven doesn’t.
Verdict:
An away win might not give you much odds, but maybe with an asian handicap for Dortmund -1, could be something for punters to go for. No doubt that Dortmund will continue winning.
Obscure Stat - Over the last 6 Bundesliga seasons, a home club on a 3 game home losing streak has hosted an away club on a 3 game away winning streak just twice. Both were in season 2007/2008 with the home club winning on both occasions.
Leverkusen vs. Augsburg
Looking for a sensation, then you shall not look any further beyond this game. The home team took to the pitch in the midweek against the reigning Champions League champion, Barcelona, and saw a defeat with a 3-1 home defeat. Leverkusen didn’t turn up until the second half where they tried to win all the second balls. However, Barcelona was just better on the night with Messi as the architect. If you add all these numbers up then it is their second consecutive defeat and the weekend could just end up seeing their worst ever week if they were to lose to bottom club, Augsburg. It is likely that the starting eleven will get the recall with the exception of Stefan Kiessling who might get the nod instead in this instance.
Second from the bottom and levelled on points with Kaiserslautern with 18 points, Augsburg doesn’t look much getting a sniff at Bay Arena. However if they aren’t going to try then they have themselves to blame because Leverkusen is in a dark circle, losing two games already and further misery could be inflicted by the relegation struggler. Considering Augsburg drew three of their last games, this could be a repeat of a point. Confidence can’t be any better than this and getting a 0-0 draw against Nurnberg in the Bavarian derby then all is possible.
Verdict:
This is just the game that will create some headlines and a draw will do just that. The odds are high and the possibility is there, but of course, Leverkusen are favourite but going for the odds this time.
Obscure Stat - Over the last 6 Bundesliga seasons, Leverkusen have hosted promoted clubs on 14 occasions winning on 13 occasions.
