North against South this weekend between Bayern and Hamburg, Dutch superstar Arjen Robben is back in the starting line up for Bayern and lots of firepower like last time they met. Dortmund will hosting Nurnberg while Sunday Mainz 05 will fight against Schalke 04 for the three points.
Bayern Munich vs. Hamburger SV
In a space of a week, Bayern is finding their winning form once again and under Jupp Heynckes, things are slowly changing for the better. Their 1-0 home defeat in the season opener to the Mochengladbach is quickly followed with an away win over Wolfsburg and a midweek win over FC Zurich in the Champions League. A strong player Bastian Sschweinsteiger is one reason for the team’s good slow pace progression, the return of Arjen Robben and Franck RIbery have also given the death touches, while Gomez and Thomas Muller are still finding their place in the lineup. The tides are turning and it does involve a little bit of luck, likewise for Luiz Gustavo winning goal last weekend. Captain Philipp Lahm has moved from right to the left side of the defense but still find life easy as he will be attacking more down the new position he is inheriting.
Hamburg is still in the transitional phase where revamping of the team is still ongoing. Therefore, no one is expecting major titles coming their way if they keep on playing as they are gathering only a point out of six in their opening two games. Coach Michael Oenning and sport director Frank Andersen have a lot to do, maybe out in the market to strengthen the team or find a solution to change the squad mentality, either way, it’s a long road ahead for Hamburg. The defensive midfielder pairing has been a major issue for the Northerns and time is what they need to get that spot sorted out.
Bayern are favorites once again at home and coming away unscathed in the midweek win over FC Zurich, it seems this is very much a simple routine of needing to win and take all three points. Hamburg will struggle, both home and away and it just doesn’t seem lady fortune will smile at them this time around at the Allianz Arena.
Predictions: Bayern to dominate and win in fashion with Robben scoring a goal.
Dortmund vs. Nuremberg
The stream train went off track and Dortmund is back on their foot on ground earth. It took a solid team like Hoffenheim to hand the home team their first defeat this season and also this year, it ended 1-0 as Dortmund stumble and licking their wounds. The euphoria will have to start once again from ground zero and it will have to be done against Nurnberg at home this weekend. There might have been too much emphasis on both Mario Gotze and Shinji Kagawa as both felt the fatigue in their feet, but no excuse for others to step up. Their passing and finishing were not precise and there were moment when Dortmund was below par on the day. Lessons should be learnt and hopefully they will be able to regroup and find their stride once again.
A difference of a week for Nurnberg, they started off with an away 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin in the capital but came crashing down at home to Hannover 96 with a 2-1 defeat in front of their fans. This week’s travel to Dortmund should be another test to see which of the team will come out from their shell. The one that wins or the one that loses, in short where the cookie crumbles. On the positive side, Nurnberg will be looking toward striker Tomas Pekhart to get them goals, as their top scorer with two goals in consecutive game, a third against Dortmund is not imaginable.
Predictions: Another week in believing the champion, favorites at least to take the three points.
Mainz 05 vs. Schalke 04
Two for two as Mainz 05 goes into their third game at home against Schalke 04 this Sunday. It seems like Mainz 05 is set to repeat their Bundesliga record of seven consecutive wins from last season. Chances are good when they face Schalke 04 at home and with Coach Marcus Sorg’s tactical formation of a 4-5-1, this should be interesting to say the least. Striker Sam Allagui is supported by wingers Marcel Risse and Korean Choup-Moting who all have scored a goal each. The understanding between them all are good so the offensive is more than stable to score. However, the defensive structure has minor changes, Danish defender Bo Svenson was replaced in last week’s game by Bungert.
Schalke 04 are looking better than what they had achieve last season at this time. Although the midweek was Europa League and not champions league, never the less domestically they are not bottom of the Bundesliga after two games. They started out with a horrible 3-0 away defeat to Stuttgart but regain composure by winning 5-1 at home over FC Cologne, after going behind 1-0. Klass-Jan Huntelaar scored a hattrick with veteran Raul getting one too. The Spanish veteran should be ready for the weekend game as he did not travel to Helskini along with midfielder Jermine Jones. Schalke 04 will be without Tim Hoogland, Christoph Moritz, Farfan, Fuchs and Metzelder while Peer Kluge is doubtful for Sunday.
Predictions: Schalke 04 must be humbled by the schedule, Mainz 05 looks more stable on this occasion.
