Something that didn't work in the past might just work in the present, Jupp Heynckes will be happy that his current crop is winning game after games while taking on his former team, Leverkusen could be in a rue awakening. Elsewhere, Dortmund will be traveling to struggling Mainz 05 to fight for the three points.
Mainz 05 vs. Dortmund
Crisis is slowly creeping over the Mainz 05 team as they slump yet again after 3-1 away defeat to Kaiserlautern last weekend. They are left in the bottom half of the Bundesliga with only 7 points in their account and Dortmund on the visit, could things get better for them? Well, with two consecutive defeats, Mainz have loads to do and at the moment, it is only Allagui who is continuing to threaten up front. The team itself is struggling and mostly in the defensive duties, in two games, they have conceded seven goals and is just something you can’t do in the Bundesliga. There is a chronic issue when it comes to defending and can’t see how they can get that sorted out for Saturday.
The table never lies and there is no exception when it comes to the reigning champions, Dortmund, level with their host at 7 points in the league. The question is whether Dortmund is struggling but unlike Mainz 05, their games have being close and losing two consecutive Bundesliga game by 2-1, both to Hertha Berlin at home while recently to Hannover 96 away. When you are playing well and not getting the win then the only thing to blame it on is the finishing. Dortmund has got the possession, domination and even creating chances in front of goal, but it’s always the last bits that is most important, scoring and maybe until Lucas Barrios returns, Dortmund will have to ask Polish Robert Lewandowski to really step up and Japense Shinji Kagawa to rediscover his scoring form.
Verdict: Dortmund to get their break and beat Mainz who are just not reliable at the back.
Bayern Munchen vs. Bayer Leverkusen
What a game this is going to be for Coach Jupp Heynckes, his former team is to visit the Bavarian giants this Saturday late afternoon and with the current form experiencing with Bayern, things are only getting sweeter for him. Their 2-0 away win over Schalke 04 last week gave way to victory number 8 in every competition and more impressively leading the Bundesliga with 15 points. Mario Gomez is doubtful to play this weekend but with Nils Petersen letting his scoring do this talking, he might get the recall with Thomas Muller, also finding the net against Schalke 04. Scoring seems to be free flowing at the moment and let’s not forget the defensive work is also on par, with goalie Neuer keeping yet another clean sheet in the wins.
Top half of the table, Leverkusen are hampered with the heavy schedule and their 4-1 home defeat to Cologne really showed fatigue amongst the ranks. Things aren’t that bad, still within a 5 point distance to league leaders, Bayern and not really out of the chase yet. However, if Leverkusen keeps on relying on both Stefan Kiessling and A. Schurrle to turn things around, then they could be in trouble with that heavy schedule. Then again, both Michael Ballack and Renato Augusto did not get thing right either so can’t be blame if this is just a blip early in the season. However, Andre Schurrle will sit and watch his team mate take on Bayern as he will be serving his suspension.
Verdict: Sweet win for Heynches for Bayern as they are unstoppable.
