Is this the man to lead Hamburg out of the relegation zone? Well they are about to meet Schalke 04, who had pretty experience last season with this struggle, on Sunday. Dortmund will face Augsburg at home while Hoffenheim will host Bayern, both games played on Sunday.
Dortmund vs. Augsburg
The home side must quickly change their mindset going into the game against Augsburg at home this Saturday. Their 3-0 away defeat to Marseille in the midweek Champions League didn’t help the team’s morale after the last weekend’s away late win of 2-1 really felt that Dortmund is back in the right direction, at least in the Bundesliga and that needs to transcend once again at home. Dortmund have slipped up in the past at home, 2-1 defeat to Hertha Berlin and what more is that after a champions league match, Dortmund lost 2-1 away Hannover 96 so their European campaign has definitely taken it’s toll, the question now is whether this will change or stay the same after this weekend’s match. Good news is that key striker Lucas Barrios has returned to training but lacks match fitness but a substitution appearance could be on the cards.
Augsburg’s future is looking bleak and in terms of points then they are officially on the brink being one of the certain teams that will be part of the relegation battle this season. However, having said that, to Augsburg’s credit, they have improved in the last two games. Two consecutive draws have seen them doubling the points by up to 4 and so avoiding the bottom place with a better goal difference. Never the less, this looks like an impossible task but on the back of their minds, they must be hoping that if they are able to be discipline enough on the day, they might be able to sneak a point and vitually triumph in a unforseenable circumstances.
Verdict: Should be an easy win for Dortmund but that depending which Dortmund turns up.
Hoffenheim vs. Bayern Munchen
Steady and ready for the visit of league leaders, Bayern when Hoffenheim takes the hosting duties this Saturday afternoon. By no means are Hoffenheim a team that be taken lightly, first of all, their impressive start to the season is mimicked in the Bundesliga, fourth with 12 points, six away from Bayern but it is also one point that needs to be taken consideration is that they have not drawn to anyone in their seven matches in the league and there is a likelihood that it won’t be coming on Saturday either. Hoffenheim has only endured one defeat at home and that was to Werder Bremen, while beating teams like Dortmund and Wolfsburg. This is very promising as Hoffenheim will certainly give it their best. Both Ryan Babel and Roberto Firmino will be leading the lines in the quest to close the gap between them and Bayern.
The same goes with Bayern, they don’t do draws, it’s only winning or losing and winning seems be the better of the two. Six straight wins in the Bundesliga and counting as more will come following with an expecting win over Hoffenheim. The midweek champions league 2-0 home win over Manchester City also showed that they are more than capable in getting the offensive bit right, it is the defensive bit that Jupp Heynckes knows more improvement is require if they were to continue the good form. Offensively, Mario Gomez has rediscovered his scoring form in the midweek and Frenchmen Franck Ribery is being inspirational not to mention that Thomas Muller is really getting better week in, week out.
Verdict: Hard fought win for Bayern, a tight win but never in doubt.
Hamburger SV vs. Schalke 04
Last season it was Schalke 04 who faced the relegation struggler tag line and this season, Hamburg is on the receiving end this time around. It can be very tedious for a team that is on transition to make good use of the progress but when you are looking so far down the table, it would be disheartening that all the hard work is not beginning to be fruitful. The exit of Michael Oenning and the reserve team boos Rodolfo Cardoso might be on the edge of the cliff but last weekend finally saw their four straight defeats come to an end with a 2-1 away win over Vfb Stuttgart. First three points on the board and that major boost will hopefully follow up to the Sunday match against Schalke 04.
The away team is on the verge of needing to set the target for themselves to make sure that they are able to stay in touching distance with Bayern at the top. This away team will test their stamina and determination as Hamburg are on turning the tides when they least want them to be. Schalke 04 will have played one midweek game once again in the Europa League and that could yet be a hinderance for the team, however, it’s not that much of a trouble when considering it is M. Haifa and also, they aren’t very taking it seriously in some occasion either. The Bundesliga remains the main prior and it is likely that they will do their utmost to win this away match and with Jefferson Farfan, Raul and Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar getting the goals, all is set up for Schalke 04 to win their second consecutive games.
Verdict: Hamburg might have a hard time avoid another week at the bottom of the Bundesliga. Schalke 04 to win.
