Jose Mourninho is one of the most successful managers in the world and Champions League gave him his stardom. The special one will be helping Real Madrid to face Tottenham Hotspurs on Tuesday in the first leg in which a win is expected. Inter Milan will be hosting Schalke 04 at the San Siro.
Inter Milan vs. Schalke 04
Weekend disaster in the Serie A as Inter Milan lost to city rivals Milan by 3-0 and playing most of the 2nd half with 10 men. It wasn’t a happy return for Leonardo but he knows he can’t win them all and when fortunate in one competition, might not spell it all every competition. Fortunate for Inter Milan, the champions league is certainly the positive competition after seeing them go through to the last 8 by beating Bayern Munich with away goal scored by Pandev in the dying minutes. The reigning champions might have a lifeline yet again drawing to another German time, this team from the West, Schalke 04 will be the opponent.
The Milan derby might have sucked the life out of some the Inter players, it is up to Leonardo to move them on quickly to focus on a silverware they might have a chance to win rather than the Scudetto. Defender Chivu was sent off in the weekend but he will be available while Lucio is still doubtful. Stankovic and Milto started on the bench in the weekend, they would provide option for Inter Milan if Leonardo was to go for a 4-4-2 formation.
Whatever Schalke 04 can do domestically then can when it comes to European matches. The German outfit is currently going through a tough season roaming around at the bottom half of the Bundesliga and seeing former coach Felix Magath departure not so long ago but still managed to get somewhere in the Champions League. With Ralf Rangnick returning to Gelsenkirchen, they showed unity in their run up to the Tuesday’s away match against Inter Milan. They beat St. Pauli 2-0 away last Friday but the game was marred with two red cards from the home team and also the match abandoned on the 88th minute due to beer cup hit the referee. Regardless of the incidents, Schalke 04 might just have gained high confidence at the right time, they won’t be so adventurous at the San Siro but surely an away goal would delightful.
Inter needs to regroup quickly and as Tuesday nears, Leonardo better find a result at home in the first leg or it could end up being second to everything which no one will remember. Inter to take the first leg.
Inter Milan win will get you odds at 1.55 with Betsson.
Real Madrid vs. Tottenham
Alarm bells must be going off at the Spanish capital after the weekend shameful home defeat to Sporting Gijon which ended Jose Mourinho’s nine year unbeaten home league record. The 1-0 defeat saw the Portuguese try a few things out on the pitch and considering being without Ronaldo, Benzema and Marcelo, there was no excuse to drop all three points. All three could return in the midweek against Spurs but if they don’t then Higuain and Adebayor will be the option to partner up with Di Maria. This does spell a bit of worry if Mourinho doesn’t have his ideal starting line up and the vulnerable notion of all this would be the team losing concentration while defending, something the Portuguese is not known for.
Tottenham will go into the first leg like their first time around in the last 16. They are likely to sit and defend with an eye to attack when the opposition is far up the pitch. To make this short and sweet, defend and counter attack are the options for Manager Harry Redknapp. If San Siro wasn’t enough to scare Spurs away, their first appearance in the last 8 will see a 80,00 0 sell out Santiago Bernabeu at their back. So without the width options of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, Spurs will sit very tight in the midfield with Sandro doing all the dirty work. Upfront will see either a return of Dafoe and Peter Crouch, but seeing this is the first leg, Spurs is likely to only have one upfront with Van der Vaart as support, not to add that he is returning to the club that sold in the January transfer window.
Head to head, Real Madrid has played Tottenham twice, one ending in a victory the other in a draw, so let’s get that out of the way. If we are talking form then both teams aren’t doing well as the run up to the game, Madrid lost at home while Spurs drawing their last three away. Spurs don’t look the side they were without the width option while Madrid just doesn’t look the team that scored over 90 goals this season when Cristano Ronaldo isn’t playing. If Spurs can get away from the Spanish capital with a draw then they would be happy but on the other hand, Real will have all to work for in the 2nd leg.
Real Madrid win will get you odds at 1.41 with Betsson.

Joe, a surprise may appear in one of the tonight's matches, both favorites blow their chances in the weekend for a pretty important objective,( Inter was much closer as i really cannot believe Real would have had much chances even if they have won) so their morale should be quite low, still i rate Mourihno as as a better "teacher" for his players than Leonardo.
I hope neither Inter not Schalke loose this one:)

Actually of the two days of CL, tonight's game should be more tighter. No one wants to lose this one but Schalke 04 is a bit risk away while spurs has never been in this situation before.

I think that both affairs will be very tight and close until the end. I simply dont see the favs blowing the underdogs away tonight. Real and Inter will have everything else than a walk in the park tonight. A half an our to go, let's see and talk again at CET 22:40.

So how many people on the site thinks that Schalke 04 will win tonight?
I have a feeling that Madrid will score more than 2 goals here. Anyone?
