No need for any introduction watching these to celebrating and also other superstars in the background coming to join in the fun and that could be the picture that we will see when Real Madrid visits Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. The other semifinal will be between Schalke 04 and Inter in which the Germans are one foot in the next round.
Schalke 04 vs. Inter Milan (Agg: 5-2)
The German side was surprisingly good in the first leg and that might have been the effect of being free from the Felix Magath reign. It was the brilliant tactician of new coach Ralf Rangnick would went to Milano last week having the mindset of playing the cat and mouse game with Inter Milan. He studied the Inter Milan defence in the 3-0 defeat to Milan and took the concept of needing to defend and counter attack in quick pace to overrun the Italians. If you think that was not the end of it, then think again as the weekend 1-0 home win over Wolfsburg as marked that former coach Magath was to be triumph once again by Rangnick. In seven days, Schalke 04 looks to restore their former good form of last season and everybody on the team looks happy to play football, one with in sight of a semi-finals spot on the horizon. This German team could well be on their way to their first semi-finals in the champions league.
The Italians have lots to think about this midweek return leg in Germany, once again they travel to Germany to find out their fate of their European season. In the last round, Inter Milan showed more determination and fight in their soul against Bayern Munich and maybe not deservedly to go through, but that’s football. So back then it was a 1-0 deficit to overturn but now it is a win and with a three goal advantage at least, miracle do happen for those of you that don’t believe. Coach Leonardo will be without defender Chivu who got sent off for the second time in four days, one in the Serie A and the other in the 1st leg against Schalke 04. Having to see all of that unfold, the reigning champions bounced back in the weekend in the a 2-0 home win over Chievo and Leonardo spared Pandev, Milton and Snejder so expect them to start on Wednesday.
Believe or not, this tie is not over as for some out there, Inter Milan might still have that belief going into the 2nd leg but if the Germans were to get a goal somewhere, it could be the end for Inter this season. Both teams will be committing to attack but Schalke 04 will be more restrain in many ways, but no matter what happens, they will be dangerous in the counter phrase, Inter will have to dominate the scene.
Tottenham Hotspurs vs. Real Madrid (Agg: 0-4)
Another tie that looks likely to be over in the first leg rather than the second, Tottenham might be hosting for their first even quarterfinals second leg tie but with a more foregone conclusion that they will need all the luck they can to claw back the 4-0 deficit that incurred last week in Madrid. Spurs might not the experience behind them on this but certainly and hopefully the pep talk from Harry Redkanpp would spur on the British bulldog with some of the players that has the physic to push forward. The midfield will need to stand strong to hold off the star stricken Madrid team but also find their two wingers, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, to show the effective of direct football which will cause problem for any sides. The weekend saw Spurs score three goals, conceding two though, with Peter Crouch getting two, the tall front man will serve his suspension after receiving two yellows in the first leg, his replacement is likely to be Dafoe. Tottenham have the goals in them but it is a matter of question of how many will they also concede and whether it is enough for them to pull it off.
Real Madrid might just find what they are privilege to as to their position when Jose Mourinho took charge of the team when he started at the Spanish capital. He has seen his team flourish in the first half of the season but losing many key player to injuries but the run up to the second leg, the Portuguese manager will see his team returning back to a full strength. Real was able to field a strong team last Saturday as they beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 away with two goals from Kaka. Cristano Ronaldo, Ozil, Xabi Alonso, Carvalho and Adebayor were all on the bench so expect them to start on Wednesday. Mourinho were superior in the first leg and of course the awaited Barcelona match up in the semi-finals could give the Portuguese what he is looking for in his reputation to get one over the Catalan.
4-0 lead and it will take more than an incident to tear away the dream Spanish semi-finals that many are looking forward to in the upcoming weeks. Somehow Real Madrid knows this is where they are able to compete with Barca and he will do his upmost to get the right result to see them advance through. Spurs will throw everything and Real will be real with them and send them packing once again.
