Argentina is the host team of this year’s Copa America for the 11th time since 1916. After the resignation of their national treasure Diego Maradona following their World Cup 2010 spell, Sergio Batista was temporarily appointed as the caretaker manager. After a few successful outing with the national team, three months later, he was officially named as their coach. The La Albiceleste together with Uruguay has been the most successful team in the tournament. They have won the title 14 times including a back to back win in 1991 and 1993 but that was the last time they have won. In the past two Copa America, they were the runner up and both beaten by Brazil. At the recent World Cup, the Argentine team were top of their group standing. They went on to reach the quarterfinal and was defeated by Germany. They were positioned 5th overall after the WC in South Africa. Captain Javier Macherano and FC Barcelona team mate Diego Forlan who is considered to be one of the best football player have both recently help their club to win the Champions League 2011 against their team mate Carlos Tevez ‘ Manchester United club. These three men will help their national team win the title and hoping that it will be a third time lucky for the La Albiceleste this time around.
