Uruguay had their fair share of glory in the international level, having won the World Cup in 1930 and 1950 and a staggering 14 title in the CONMEBOL’s South American tournament, a glory in which they share with the Copa America 2011 host nation, Argentina. Having mentioned their past glory, it has more than a decade for the Uruguayan to put their stamp on this event. This has been a long overdue since winning in 1995 against Brazil in a thrilling penalty shoot-out that resulted 1-1 (5-3 pen). The possibility of Le Celeste accomplishing it this year ‘s tournament is looking bright. The same team that showed a good form in World Cup 2010 Final are going to Argentina. This same team who barely made it to the WC Final had shown their resilient spirit by reaching as far as the semi-final for the first time in 40 years and had conceded only five goals in their six matches until they were knockout by Germany in a very brilliant showing that resulted in a 2-3 defeat. The Uruguay national team will also have with them same coach who led them in South Africa. Head coach Oscar Tabarez, who made an impact on them will once again guide them in this year’s South American game. The retired Uruguayan footballer will have some of the best footballers in this generation at his disposal. With the likes of Diego Forlan who won the Golden Ball and Luis Suarez of Liverpool. With the entire nation are expecting more from the national team because of what they were able to show in the past. Coach “El Maestro” with the help of his captain Diego Lugano, who was selected the best captain of 2010 World Cup, will be hoping to direct the squad in ending their 16- year dry spell to claim their eight Copa America title in Argentina.
