Brazil can't buy a goal even when the keeper is beaten and that is something they need to change going into the second game of group B B. Th group B is all square with a point and with no one scoring in the first game but Brazil is in search to change that against Paraguay while Venezuela takes on Ecuador.
Brazil vs. Paraguay
Not the most optimal start to the Copa America for the Brazilians and that could be down to their clincal finishing if they want to get out of the group as winners. Against Venezuela, they saw much of the ball and created enough chances to finish off the game but that did not happen and so a 0-0 can’t be consider as a good start to the tournament when all three points were expected. Coach Mano Menezes took some thought into his formation and pull out a 3-4-3 in his first match with Pato, Neymar and Robinho upfront. Much thought will have to go into the formation before taking on Paraguay in the second match of the game where all the teams are leveled on points and goal difference. The key for the defending champion is find their feet by scoring and find that ticket into the next round. Neymar will be once again be playing under heavy scrutiny and Pato looking to lead the team to glory.
Paraguay had the chance to go top of the group knowing that Brazil drew before their kickoff against Ecuador. They started well and truly should have got up front but as the game progressed and chances squandered, Paraguay could not muster any concrete and had to settle with a 0-0 for their first match. It was a disappointing match for both Lucas Barrios and Roque Santa Cruz, more pressure will be on them to perform against Paraguay. Apart from that, midfielder Marcelo Estigarribia is becoming the emerging player in the big scene. His supporting role in the midfield has given a bit of a flair and breakthrough in a play. Much is needed from him when they face Brazil and it is most likely that they will be defending more than attacking on this occasion.
Brazil will have to find their stride to get on par to live up to their title of being the defending champions. Their tactics has been offensive over the years and after the Dunga days, coach Mano Menezes has reverted back into the pressuring football with a likelihood of placing six players on the opposition half when the opponent has the ball. If that was against more established footballing nations, then they could easily be caught out of the tactics and putting the defensive in pressured sitation where players are left one on one during defending situation. At first, Brazil has all to do for but if you looking closely, they have all the resource available, question is whether they can score and if they do that, then this one should be in the bag.
Venezuela vs. Ecuador
Living up to the bill of being one of the weakest teams in Group B, both Venezuela and Ecuador got out of the first game with a point and keep the chances to qualify for the next round a bit more tighter than expected. Both teams have the chance to make but if someone wins here, well, it is likely to see the other one go, this game is so even that even the neutral will be looking this as a drew.
Venezuela soaked all the pressure up against Brazil and got yet again a good result against the Samba boys. At the end of the game, Venezuela could have even stolen all three points but that did not materialized which would have being cruel for Brazil, the favorites. This time around, they will face Ecuador in which they might be more generous when it comes to defending. In terms of the play for Venezuela, they should stand a bit more chance this time around against a less side of Ecuador. If you survive against Brazil, even with luck, then they should be good enough to try for a win.
A stalemate in their first game was a humble start to their campaign in the Copa America, Ecuador did not find any luck against Paraguay, in fact they were pressed heavily during the game. They did get that one moment where Christian Benitez could have sealed the deal with that one on one chance, but after that Paraguay was left with most initiative in the 2nd half. If that happens against Venezuela then Ecaudor are promised to find it hard to qualify to the next round. They had to thank goalie Elizaga for his superb saves in his first game and another one of those performance could trigger the panic button that they might not strong enough offensively.
