Pato and Neymar

The defending champion might have awakening up to do after shaving through to the quarterfinals with 2 draws and a win in the group stages. The Samba boys might have done it the hard way to get out of the Group as top but in the quarterfinals, they will be meeting a familiar face again, Paraguay who they drew 2-2 in their second game in the group stages so this will not be an encounter but a final challenge of a worthy team to get through to the semifinals.

Brazil vs Paraguay

Finally, Brazil won a game in the Copa America and let's hope that it is not the end of that because crunch time is beginning to start warming into the tournament. Once the Brazilian strikers start pulling through, like Pato and Neymar with two each against Ecuador then things should be on the positive side. Although having said that, it took a team like Ecuador to get the Brazil going so therefore it really tells you how Brazil is struggling on the pitch, maybe the players not gelling that quickly as they thought they would.  The width seems to be flowing once again with Maicon gunning through the right which will make coach Mano Meneze decision easier when they face Paraguay. All said and done, there are still issues with the defending parts of the game and that is something that they need to fix, leaking goals are one thing that Brazil needs to watch out for.

Paraguay found themselves in some rueful position once the final whistle blew and had to settle with a 3-3 draw against Venezuela in their last group stage match. The Paraguayans saw a 3-1 lead went into smokes in the dying seconds of the game and gave away their top spots to Brazil, and with that disappointing result, they now have to face Brazil as a consequences for their mistakes. Paraguay might have shown their prowess when it comes to scoring goals, actually they haven’t been stopping the goals since the two goals against Brazil in their second game of the tournament. Apparently, if you see the trend then Paraguay seems to switch off in the last 5-10 minutes of the game and that could hamper their chances going into another game where the opponent has had the better of them. Both Lucas Barrios and Antolin Alcaraz are on the verge to make something happen for the Paraguayans, but the hope for Roque Santa Cruz to return back into form is imperative.

The beginning of the end, one team will go through and the likelihood would be the Brazil as they are favourites after getting their scoring feet on while also winning games. Even though, Paraguay proably have a better take than Brazil, which was evident in their last match, Brazil will be looking for another attitude when facing them for the second time. While one team is on a high and the other is slumping in confidence when they should have sealed the game long gone, Brazil could be on the verge to climb up to the top once again, so that brief win over Ecuador could have just being the potion of greater things to come, while Paraguay will have to fight their own demons first.
