The time has come to see whether FC København can find a way to lift yet another Danish Superligaen Title this season. They travel away to SønderjyskE this sunday to find those three points while Monday evening will see nearest rivals, FC Nordsjælland hosts OB at Farum Park.
SønderjyskE vs. FC København
Usually the Danish title are already being dealt and that has been in the last few season however, not this season and SønderjyskE could be the team that could give the current champion FC København a bit of scare before bidding for their fourth consecutive Danish Superliga title. The home team are clearly a tough team and that was surely shown in the 4-3 win in their most recent encounter against the champions. SønderjyskE are weak at the back but in the front lines, they have one practical player that can win game and hopefully Qunicy Antipas will live up to his name. That or Icelandic Eyjolfur Hedinsson would be interested to get his name on the score sheet once again.
One point separate FC København from rivals, FC Nordsjælland in second place, at the top of the Superligaen. With three games to go, the title is FC København to lose and their recent form have suggested that this is the route they are going to end up. They lost to 1-0 away to FC Nordsjælland and that was followed by a 1-1 draw against OB at home last weekend. Manager C.V Jensen will have to motivate his men to get more discipline at the back and more composure in their attack. Every opposition seems to be frustrating the lions but it is truly the inability to break their opposition defence down during play. Copenhagen are still dangerous in the set pieces but really if they want to win, then they have to win on the open play. This is a must win game for the capital club team.
Verdict:
Head to head, FC København have the advantage, out of the four encounter this season, FC København have won three, twice at home while once away. This is really a game they can’t afford to lose and only a win will give them the satisfication of going into the second last day of the season at league leader. It is about holding on to the top spot and if Dame N’Doye gets going then FC København is your team to win on the day.
FC Nordsjælland vs. OB
Consistent and well in it for a shout, FC Nordsjælland knows what they have to do in order to get their hands on a trophy for the first time ever in their history. In this case, they can only win their games and hope that their rivals will drop points in the next three games to come. They have the advantage of having two home games in the last three, firstly OB, then away to Brondby and finishing against AC Horsens at home. They face OB for the first time this season at home and that might just sit well with them as they possess a five straight win going into this game. This is all thanks to Søren Christensen, Tobias Mikkelsen and Mikkel Beckmann getting the goals. If they can continue to score and win, then the Danish title race will defeintely go down to the wire.
OB isn’t the same side that contested in the Europa League last season. They lost their way in some aspect of the playing style but also the manager hot seat has also done some swapping. This has currently seem them drop further down the league and so low that they are 10th in the Superligaen. They need at least three points to avoid the drop. They haven’t won in the last 12 games and registering four draws along the way suggests that they are a club in much crisis. However, last weekend 1-1 draw in Parken has certainly given them confidence that they can avoid the drop and they will surely give their host a competitive game on Monday evening. Their key player would be Morten Skoubo who has been scoring and give that hope for his team to salvage on.
Verdict:
The home side needs that three points and if they don’t get it here then the title might be a distance memory. FC Nordsjælland has to win and that is surely what the board, manager and the fans demands of the team. If OB doesn’t get at least a point here then they can still escape a drop on the day if Lyngby loses their game, if not, then there is head to head game against Lyngby next weekend. Pressure on is FC Nordsjælland while OB could go into this game with relax mood.
