The tie between Braga and Dynamo Kyiv is the only tie in the Europa League that still hasn't really found a winner after the first leg. Porto, Benfica and Villarreal all are leading their tie with at least a four goal advantage which looks likely to see Spartak Moskva, PSV Eindhoven and Twente out of the Europa at the end of 90 minutes on Thursday.
Braga vs. Dynamo Kyiv (Agg: 1-1)
This is the only tie in the last 8 of the Europa League that scored under 2.5 goals and a home team not winning the first leg. Dynamo Kyiv will need to get that goal in order to even think about the chance to get into the next round. One of the three Portuguese left in the tournament have the most taunting task of the all as they only have the away goal advantage compare to others who have a few goals more to the score.
This is the furthest Braga have ever gone in an European competition and if they are to hold out for another 90 minutes with a goalless draw or getting a win, they will write into their history book and most likely to get a Portuguese team in the semi-finals. Braga have Oleh Gusev to thank for in the first leg own goal and that gave the away goal advantage which is something you can’t buy. They have won six of their seven home games this season and considering that they have only conceded a single goal in the Europa league, expect some resistant at the Estadio AXA. What more is that Braga had a free weekend in the Portugese league so they are more than ready to take on Kyiv on Thursday.
The Ukrainians must be biting their tongue for not finishing off the game last midweek in the first leg. They will need to get a goal in order to see the light on the other side of the tunnel when it comes to more European football this season. Fortunate for Braga but unfortunate for Kyiv, Ardriy Shevchenko will not be available as he receives two bookable offence in the first leg which Kyiv might need to rethink their offense tactics. Shevchenko will be missed as he was the one who grabbed a goal in the 1-1 away draw against Metalurg Zaporizhya in the weekend. There is still lots to do but only 90 minutes to change their fate.
The home team have a long presence of having a solid defence when it comes to playing infront of their own fans. Dynamo Kyiv have been able to win away from home in the Europa League which will be crucial to their confidence and a win for Braga will see them facing most likely Benfica in the semi-finals.
Spartak Moskva vs. Porto (Agg: 1-5)
One of the three Portuguese teams that have a big chance to get into the semi-finals and Porto is the team that has biggest chances since they lead 5-1 from the first leg. The victory last midweek makes Porto on the verge of a second successive Europa League victory against Russian opponents. They travel to the capital with a lot of confidence and having the Portuguese league sewn up, the Europa League is next on the list for some silverware. Porto striker Falcao hit a hattrick when these two teams met last time, he will be watched closely by the Russian defence and Coach Valeri Karpin will have to pull some kind of rabbit out from the head to get into the next round. This game will start time of 19:00 CET kickoff.
PSV Eindhoven vs. Benfica (Agg: 1-4)
The last of the three Portuguese teams and likewise to Porto, Benfica will take a 4-1 advantage to Holland as they face PSV Eindhoven in the second leg. Of all of the home ties, PSV Eindhoven have all the past experience in the world to pull the deficit back and that could be a memorable night for the Dutch side. However after seeing the first leg, PSV were outplayed in every areas on the pitch and the scoreline was flattering for Eindhoven as it could be more and the second leg might not be an use to them. Benfica will hold out at Eindhoven and it will be up to PSV to attack from the start and see where it will take them. PSV Eindhoven struggled to win their home game in the weekend against SC Heerenveen and resulted in a 2-2 draw which also failed to overtake Twente for the top spot in the Eredivisie.
Twente vs. Villarreal (Agg: 1-5)
Another Dutch team struggling in Europe, Twente went to Spain without doing their homework and Villarreal spanked them 5-1. This second leg tie does look like it will be a hard tough road for the home team and not much reward ahead of them, but then they have 90 minutes to turn things around and judging by the weekend hard 1-1 draw against Roda, they might not be up for the task. They still hold the top spot in the Eredivise and maybe that would be vital for the club going forward rather than winning the Europa League but of course, if they get into the next round then that would be a bonus and then they will be rewarded by a Portuguese team in sight.
