Is this the end of the road for Celtic's European title hopes? Somehow they are able to come back time after time but Udinese could be the team that knocks them out once and for all in 2011. Club Brugge and SC Braga could also go safely through with a draw on Thursday night.
Club Brugge vs. SC Braga
The last available spot for Group H is in Club Brugge’s hand. All they have to do is get a draw or a win against SC Braga and that would eliminate Birmingham from this competition. Both Club Brugge and Braga are three points ahead of Birmingham so all will come down to what these two teams decide to do on the night. For Club Brugge, they are more than happy to take on Braga once again as their previous meeting saw a winning header goal from Ryan Donk in final minutes in Matchday 2. The Belgium outfit have seen some great comebacks and their character will show this coming Thursday, as their weekend 1-0 win over Sint-Truiden is already showing positive signs in making the last 32 in Europa League.
Verdict: Club Brugge to advance into the next stage and with a win.
Udinese vs. Celtic FC
Top of the Serie A and still looking to secure a passage into the last 32, Udinese will have to achieve at least a draw to make it through to the next round. But first they will have to face a Celtic team who are also within a chance to advance through to the next round. All the Celtic needs to do is beat Udinese and go through via. head to head statistic. Having said that, Celtic does not have a good record away from Celtic Park so this is a tough match but not impossible. Celtic saw victory snatched away from them 10 minutes from the final whistle in Matchday 2. A set piece was all it took for Udinese to take that one point back to Italy and that is something they will need to do again if they want to make it to the last 32.
Udinese is enjoying some great form of the late, they managed to beat Chievo 2-1 at home last Sunday, their seventh consecutive home win in the Serie A. Both Damiano Ferronetti and Gianpiero Pinzi will be available for selection and both Di Natale and Basta will be hoping to get the call up once again. Their first time topping the Serie A should give them much confidence to make them find yet another tough encounter and make way into the last 32. Celtic’s run up to the trip to Italy saw them beat 1-0 over Hearts this weekend.
Verdict: Tactically Udinese are on song so expect at least a draw on the night, that will be enough for them to go through to the next round.
