Roberto Soldado Coming through the ranks of Real Madrid, Valencia Roberto Soldado could haunt his former employee at the Mestalla this weekend when the Copa del Rey champions visits the coastal team. Barcelona will have their battle to pick on too, they will have to face Osasuna at Nou Camp with the search for another three points to keep them far away from Real in the La Liga tables.

Valencia vs. Real Madrid

Comfortable with the third place in the La Liga, Valencia is breathing new life into a team that have bee endure financial toughness over the recent years. The sale of some key players might have weakened the team but it goes with the saying of, out with the old, in with the new. That is the sort of transition that Valencia is going through, in comes Mata, Alba, Pablo and most exciting prospect of them all, Roberto Soldado with 13 goals this season, not to mention the opening goal in the 3-0 away win against Almeria last weekend. This is an exciting crop of players coming from the Mestalla, maybe the team’s depth isn’t there yet to challenge Real or Barca, but there is substance in their play and Real will experience that this weekend.

Midweek win over Barcelona is the sort of game that put Real in real contention for the big prize and when it comes to the La Liga, that boat might have sailed, however nothing is impossible. More emphasis will be on Real to get their mentality up the gear when the fourth El Clasico is to be held in the champions league next midweek while the weekend might serve as a distraction but yet again, a must win game if they want to challenge for the La Liga. It is likely that Benzema or Adebayor will be call upon in the weekend, so the midfield will include Kaka and Ozil presence, Cristano Ronaldo will remain doubtful until the eleventh hour. Manager Jose Mourinho should have enough firepower to jiggle the squad around for the away trip to the Mestalla.

Many readers out there might have seen pictures of the Copa del Rey was dropped by Sergio Ramos in the team bus celebration. Many will also know that some damages were done to the trophy but more so importantly that cup is not the priority for Real Madrid, the champions league and the Primera Divison are the heavyweights so expect a slip up here as Real might get real enough to spare some of the players for the big showdown in the champions league.

Barcelona vs. Osasuna

Defeat is seldom associated with Barcelona but they are humans after all as they saw 1-0 defeat in extra time to bitter rivals Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final. The third of the five El Clasico held this season saw Barcelona overcame on slaughter from Real, after last weekend 1-1 draw in the Spanish capital, in the regular 90 minutes but a goal from Ronaldo in the extra time made the treble unreachable for Barca. If that wasn’t enough bad news by losing to rivals, no silverware then leg injury to Adriano could harm the team’s defensive as he is sidelined for the last six league matches and possible the Champions League final. Coach Pepe Guardiola shouldn’t have any headaches with the upcoming home match against Osasuna, in which they lead with 8 points in the Primera Division, and having the game at Nou Camp.

Osasuna can’t be considered safe yet sitting 5th last in the league with 35 points. They are currently just two points above relegation zone were both Malaga and Real Zaragoza is breathing tightly on their neck. The away team hasn’t so far showed that they have the willingness to stay in the La Liga and by going with their current form, relegation in evitable. Their third consecutive defeat last weekend at home to Athletic Bilbao with 2-1 did somehow spell how deep Osasuna has got themselves into. With six games to go and having to meet Barcelona, Valencia and also Villarreal, they could struggle to secure enough points to remain the top Spanish league.

The disappointment of the midweek defeat to Real will surely be forgotten once the goals and wins start rolling in the next six matches, starting with Osasuna on Saturday evening. The expectation of Barca to win at home and retain the title is more important, equally to the champions league, so poor old Osasuna being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
