Cristano Ronaldo

Cristano Ronaldo will start the season off with a travel to Real Zaragoza with his team, Real Madrid on Sunday. Although, La Liga officially starts on Saturday with Valencia taking on Racing Santander while Barcelona will return from Super Cup duties to take on Villarreal at the Nou Camp on Monday night.

Valencia vs. Racing Santander

The strike is over and an agreement between the LFP and AFE will find it comforting that the La Liga will go ahead this weekend. Therefore, we start the Spanish season with the second week fixtures rather than the first, as that is agreed to be played in January 2012. Our very first game will see Valencia taking on Racing Santander, however Sporting Gijon against Real Sociedad will be played early on the evening, at 20:00CET.

The home side will have to cope without Juan Mata in their starting eleven and Coach Unai Emery will need to reshuffle his squad a bit. He will be without Aritz Aduriz  but apart from that he has a full squad to choose from. After masterminding a spot into the champions league this season, Emery will have to get his tactics right early and new loan signing Sergio Canales to operate where Mata has left wanting.

Racing Santander will be considered one of those teams that will be battling in the lower half of the La Liga. They finished 12th in the league but on the other hand, they are a better away side than home. It’s not what is on the field that could trouble the club, it is merely what is happening off the field and more precisely in the boardroom. Indian businessmen, Syed Ali has certainly given some financial worries by leading the club into administration. Away from the financial crisis, Coach Hector is without Oscar Serrano for the travel to seaside and also without money to strengthen the team.

Verdict: Looks like a home win but can't express the caution that this is the first match of the season.

Real Zaragoza vs. Real Madrid

Sunday will see a royal encounter between Zaragoza and Madrid in the evening. The focus will be on the capital club to show their form earlier on the season to match Barcelona much expected season to retain the La Liga title. If Real Madrid want to avoid the Catalan team regaining yet another league title under Coach Jose Mourinho then there must be some player responsibility to step up on the field. The team is relative similar to last season but of course Mourinho has made his squad stronger and more robust. The purchase of Fabio Coentrao will add more firepower in the midfield, both defensive and offensive. Question mark still surrounds Brazilian Kaka whether he will stay but that shouldn’t effect Mourinho’s goal to win the title.

Witnessing the Spanish Super Cup between Real and Barca, Real Madrid are still a bit behind the Catalans counterparts regardless of who is playing on the field. However against Zaragoza, it shouldn’t be a problem and if there is a problem, then it will obviously down to the player’s performance as Real Zaragoza is having a tough time getting their financial in place in order to survive this season. There is much in this one, Real Madrid to take the three points here.

Verdict: Nothing more and nothing less for a Real Madrid win or else, can't imagine what the critic will say.
