Torres & Meireles Chelsea

Once a Red but now a Blue, both Raul Meireles and Fernando Torres could get the nod on Tuesday when they face Liverpool at Anfield after three day winning the FA Cup. Both will not get a warm welcome from the home fans but the three points are on offer and Chelsea will not let this one slip either as a champions league spot is on stake.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea

From Wembley to Anfield Road, Tuesday evening will see both FA Cup finalist take their last and final chapter of their matchup this season. It has only been three days since they last meet and in those 90 minutes, it was Chelsea that found victory and also lifting their first silverware under Roberto Di Matteo helm. He now has to do the same at Anfield.

Liverpool’s disappointing season has been highlighted in the press and elsewhere in the media that currently manager Kenny Daglish has underachieve this season, despite reaching two Cup finals, winning the Carling Cup but failed in the FA Cup. Currently sitting at ninth spot isn’t something to proud about with the stature of the club, they trail Fulham with 3 points and also local rivals, Everton with four points, a win on Tuesday evening could change that scenario going into the last day of the season. However, as we all have seen this season, Liverpool struggles to win games at Anfield and especially at the turn of the year, Liverpool has under perform. The wins are getting less while the draws and defeats are coming through in consecutive segments. The only positive that could been seen is that the club’s expensive £35 million buy striker, Andy Carroll is showing good sign and goals are coming slowly. He will start with Luis Suarez who was searching for his service at Wembley. Defender Martin Kelly, Midfielder Maxi and Dirk Kuyt could get the start on Tuesday.

Chelsea knows what to do when it counts and this is yet another game that requires a victory. It is very much another cup match because the three points could get them the sprinkle chance in making the champions league next season. If they don’t , then they will have to win their first champions league trophy in two weeks time when they meet Bayern Munichen at the Allianz Arena. Back to Anfield, Chelsea knows what it takes to beat Liverpool, their first this season after three attempts and a change of staff could be in order. Both former Liverpool players, Raul Meireles and Fernando Torres could get the start while Drogba gets the rest. However, Di Matteo might go with Darren Sturridge and even give Malouda, Ferreira and Essien a start. However, both defenders Gary Cahill and David Luiz will be absence once again. If anything was to go by for the FA Cup final then it is likely you will see a Chelsea that will Liverpool dominate and hit them in the break, with Mata as their architect.

Verdict:

The talking point will be the goal that never was or the goal and the goal that was awarded from the home side. Never the less, Andy Carroll can get his revenge if he gets the chance against Cech once again. Liverpool could rest a few players and Chelsea are in a hunt for the three points. Liverpool will bounce back from the disappointing result on Saturday however a draw could be the end point for these two.
