Queens Park Rangers – Here to stay

By David, BettingExpert.com | Published

Promotion specialist Neil Warnock has done it again but will he, once again, fail to hold his place amongst the top sides in the country? This time it may be different given the backup of Ecclestone’s money coffers. The club have already brought in some new faces and should keep adding to the list until closure of the transfer window.

Manager: Warnock

Tactics: 4-3-1-2

Players In: DJ Campbell, K. Dyer, Gabbidon, Bothroyd, Murphy

Players Out: Chimbonda, L. Brown, Ramage, B. Graham

Current Probable Formation: Kenny, Gabbidon, Gorkss, Connolly, Hill, Buzsaky, Faurlin, T. Smith, Taarabt, Bothroyd, DJ Campbell

Although many will question the need to bring on a third goalkeeper, Murphy, to compete with two already established keepers like Paddy and Cerny when he is really no better than any of the two, the bigger question would be related to the signing of Keiron Dyer. The winger has started only 15 games for West Ham in the four seasons he has spent there due to constant injuries. He is a fragile player and should have not been guaranteed a contract unless dependent on the number of appearances he will make. Suspicion is that he will not be seeing much of the field as he will the infirmary at Loftus Road.

The signing of DJ Campbell, however, is one to applaud. At a very reasonable price QPR managed to get hold of a striker who has already proven his worth in the Premier League last season at Blackpool. His striking partner Jay Bothroyd has a proven track record as well. Although he never shined at the highest levels and proven inconsistent at times, last season’s 18 goals in 39 starts for Cardiff City look like being a sign of having finally reached maturity at 29 years of age.

The striking partnership should inflict a lot of damage if they get along well. They may need to take their time though and in the meantime it should be last season’s team hero Taarabt to take matters in his own hands. The playmaker should once again be given a free role, hovering behind the strikers and in between enemy lines. Goals and assists will be flowing if he manages to adapt quickly to life in the top flight.

The problems for Queens Park Rangers seem to get more bothersome as you move down the pitch to their midfield and defence.  Excluding Dyer there have been no new names added to the squad in any of the two departments. Warnock will be running around to add some experience to the team until the end of August as he is well aware that unless he does something quick he may have to once again bow down and return to the Championship.

Predicted finishing position: 14th

They are the team with the highest chances of survival from the three promoted sides. Warnock has been trying to get new players in order to ensure their ambitions are not dented but so far it has not been enough. QPR may be able to inflict damage with some very good strikers and the creative Taarabt but they still lack Premier League experience all over. Survival will depend on their market dealings.
