The Premier League 2010/11 saw alot of close encountering making it hard for Manchester United to lift their 19th Premiership title. Never the less, the Red Devil took all honours while the bottom saw a last day thriller to find the last two teams getting relegated.
The Premiership 2010/11 Champion:
Champion for the 19th time, Manchester United has got it all when it comes to the English league. They possess both the player of the season, Nemanja Vidic, and the manager of the season, Sir Alex Ferguson, and hardly anyone can complain about their achievement. When Vidic avoids red cards, the Man United defence managed 13 clean sheets and contributing five goals this season. In the absence of Rio Ferdinand due to injury, Vidic has turn over the captaincy duties and what rewards this has reap in for Ferguson, even though the Scots knows that this Manchester United team might not have been the strongest. Another coup that Ferguson managed to deal himself is that purchase of £6 million Mexican Javier Hernandez, totalling of 20 goals in 26 appearances, Charicharito is arguably the best buy of the season.
The Rest of the Top:
A buoyant season
for Chelsea and in the end, Italian Coach Carlo Ancelotti got the chop in the
post-season. This leaves Chelsea very much in the same position when Jose
Mourinho left the club, still without a champion league medal and that is
something Roman Abrmanivoich will be searching for yet again. The billionaire
did manage to acquire the service of Fernando Torres for recording signing of
£50 million and yet another title is given to the Spaniard, the flop of the
season with only one goal to show for after his move from Liverpool to Chelsea.
Like Chelsea,
Manchester City have millions to spend and that was spent well if you look at
what they have achieved in 2010-11. They managed to get themselves in the
champion league, breaking into the top 4, and also wining the FA Cup, their
first major trophy after 35 years. The team is very reliant on Argentinean
Carlos Tevez, brothers Yaya and Kolo Toure. The goals are coming from both
Tevez and Yaya but the defence needs a leading role which Kolo show most
promise and City missed that authority with the lengthy suspension due to drug
taking. Deserving their success.
Arsenal started
with great promise but end with disappointment. With Cesc Fabregas in and out
of the starting line-up, younger player of the year, Jack Wilshere had to step
up for Arsene Wenger youthful team. Young Wilshere managed to get into the
England starting eleven so something did come alright this season, apart from
the defeat in the League Cup and not able to challenge Manchester United in
second half of the season. Another one for the road, Arsenal did get us the
exciting 3-3 draw against rivals
Both Tottenham and Liverpool missed out on Champion League next season, finishing respectively 5th and 6th, Spurs will end up playing football next season in the Europa League while Liverpool will start rebuilding with their record buy Andy Carroll at £35 million and also one of the top buys of this season, Uruguayan Luis Suarez at £22.8m. Tottenham will strengthen their team to challenge the top 4 with a hopeful healthy Gareth Bale to lead the charge.
Bottom less pit
The saga went on forever with West Ham, first it was the chairman spot, then it was the manager/coach and then of course, the Olympic stadium. All in which they found out the hard way that they were not going to get out of the evil circle unless going down was the option. Both Blackpool and Birmingham showed great form earlier on the season but the second half saw both teams failing the mark. Birmingham fell after winning the League Cup, also mainly several of their key players were injured and Blackpool couldn’t seem to able defend which lead to more goals concede than scoring. Hopefully all those mistakes are duly noted as the Championship awaits them.
To conclude this Premiership season off, let’s take a look at what teams were awarded this year.
- Champion: Manchester United,
- Champions League: Chelsea, Manchester City & Arsenal.
