Premiership - Week 33 - The Gunners looks into Red

kuytThe fight to the finish as Liverpool travels to London on Sunday afternoon to face Arsenal. Dirk Kuyt and his fellow reds will won't be fearing to on the weak Arsenal defense but vice versa Arsenal will test the Liverpool back four. On Saturday, Chelsea will travel to West Brom while another relegation struggler West Ham takes on Aston Villa.

West Bromwich Albion vs. Chelsea

If there was one coach that can do it, then it is Roy Hodgson who can do what many can’t, bring a team back from salvage point and with WBA, it is what it seems. The question to put forward to Big Roy is what on earth happened at Liverpool and how he can change West Brom from going down to above the relegation battle in a space of few weeks,  maybe one thing is in place, WBA’g goal is to survive while Liverpool is more than just to surviving in their protocol. No matter what has happened, Roy is in a better place now and with Saturday coming up and Chelsea on the cue card, they are looking confident at the Hawthorns in which three points in sight is also likely. The Baggies will be without Dorrans but Tchoyi could return after attending to his sick wife.

After being dumped out of the champions league in the midweek, Chelsea is ready for an exodus for players and even manager, but is not without a fight to keep their champions league spot for next season. The 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the midweek saw the end of any silverware this season and expectations for them to concentrate on the premier league is imminent. Any more drop points will surely be scrutinise on following players which that means their job is on the line and of course, Ancelotti’s head is too. He will have the luxury of seeing David Luiz return to the starting line up with John Terry, but both Alex and Ramires is doubtful.

From double to trouble, Chelsea are staring on a hard line watching their season going into smokes and with players playing for their job, a bit of nervousness is creeping in. For the home team, only one thing matters and that is points to surive and any points taken off Chelsea is already a triumph on it’s own.

West Ham vs. Aston Villa

The Hammers are being pushed here as there aren’t many games left to get themselves out of the relegation dogfight. There is little between them and other relegation struggles and Aston Villa are just 5 points above them and Avram Grant is keen to catch them. Last weekend saw a disappointing display from the East Londoners as they were torn into pieces by Bolton pulling off a 3-0 win at the Reebok Stadium. West Ham didn’t find their stride and hopefully back at Upton Park, the much needed three points will be forthcoming on Saturday. Grant can call on Kieron Dyer as he returns fom a loan spell at Ipswich but Jack Collison, Kurucz and Stanislas are not available.

Aston Villa might not want to be labelled as relegation strugglers but manager Gerald Houllier hasn’t given the boost that the team wanted when he took over. Just four point from the relegation zone, Villa was helped by a 1-0 home win over Newcastle United at Villa Park last weekend which left a few players something to smile about. This weekend they travel to Upton Park in search for another three points but it won’t be easy but surely the three points here could just cement their existence in teh Premier League for another year. Houlier will be happy to know that he is able to pick his strongest side as there are no reports of injury.

A full clean bill of health as Villa arrives to Upton Park and having two strong strikers like Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor, anything can happen infront of the West Ham’s goal. If there was one factor then West Ham have their own strikers that can do the job too. Ba, Robbie Keane and also Charlton Cole could be their savoir at the end. A draw might be planned out but both teams know a win is a must.

Arsenal vs. Liverpool

Arsenal needs to show that they can handle big game and come out with all the points they need for the Premiership title and Liverpool is that sort of opposition that could test them. The physical power of the Arsenal squad doesn’t match the Premiership mighty towering player that might not play the beautiful football that manager Arsene Wenger craves for. It was the sort of games like Sunderland, Newcastle, West Brom and Blackburn that dent Arsenal’s hope for their first taste of the title since 1997. Now that Andy Carroll have switch from Newcastle to Liverpool, they are once again faced with the physical presence in which both Squillaci and Koscielny will have to deal with. Wenger is still without Bartley, Fabianski, Mannone and Vermaelen while the doubtful list includes Alunia, Sagna, Song, Denilson, Djourou and Szczesny.

Liverpool might be without Daniel Agger, Gerrard , Johnson and Kelly but caretaker Kenny Daglish is finding new ways to put life into the Reds. The 3-0 win over Manchester City last Monday showed that Liverpool might not rely on Gerrard on the future but maybe within the hands of the two record signing in the January Transfer window of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll. With the new players comes also home grown players that Daglish is giving much faith on, Jay Spearing in the midfielder and John Flanagan in the defending role, both mentor by Daglish during the Academy days. The answer were seen against Manchester City and against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, could they continue the feat.

Confidence is the key to winning and that is something Arsenal lack when they are without Cesc Fabregas and even worse off when they are without Van Persie too. The goalie position has also being in question a few times this season and seeing Jen Lehman in goal once again won’t be surprising. Liverpool travel to London with no fear nor anything to lose, they will be playing their game that Daglish have help to shape them as a unit.
